Hey Wetpaint...How about giving us the TRUTH

After reading this article titled : "As It Moves Away From The Wikis, Wetpaint Launches TV News And Entertainment Site" I scratched my head and started thinking.1. Are the terrible events the community has suffered since November 2010, a sampling of what is to come in the future? 2. Is Wetpaint "Robbing Peter to Pay Paul"? Separating the Wetpaint main site from Wetpaint community wikis. Stealing hardware from the community side and placing them on the Entertainment side. If the load balancing servers were removed to supply the entertainment sites, it would surely explain the snail's pace of our wikis. 3. Will the email system disappear? It has always had problems. 4. There have been no new features in over a year. But there have certainly been many bugs, glitches and disappearance of features. 5. Simple lists like the Top 100 have been ignored. I cannot wait to see what happens to the Stats Awards. 6. There hasn't been a single reply from WP personnel , with regards to the problems occurring on WP, with the exception of the outage today Jan 5, 2011. And if there were it is the standard "We are working on it." The community moderators are/and have been covering your butts for years. How about giving the community the truth Wetpaint, instead of deflecting, sidestepping or just plain ignoring us. Remember we are the one's that got you started and kept you alive over the past 3 years. Are we now to be your orphans? P.S. If anyone is interested in the article it can be found here: http://techcrunch.com/2010/09/05/as-it-moves-away-from-the-wikis-wetpaint-launches-tv-news-and-entertainment-site/ 4 out of 4 found this valuable. I agree. Ironic really, one of Wetpaint's own Help & Support moderators revolting. But I've never liked it. I've always been suspicious. Truth would be nice.I've even seen one of the Super Painters retaliate. Is there even any left? Every time people ask about new features, I've noticed them being completely ignored. Jeremy and Kevin are the only people paying any attention to the wikis, and Kevin is rarely seen around anyway. They have 40 million in funding, and they're doing jack with it. Heh, maybe next time someone says 'Why isn't ____ working', maybe I should say 'Please be patient while Wetpaint ignore the problem and tend to their Entertainment sites. Thanks!' Nah, don't quite fancy getting demoted. It would be quite funny though. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I can't believe that such an active member like yourself is rehashing this stuff only now, CryingDove...This whole thing is *very* old news already. That article is about four months old now and it has been debated and beaten here to a pulp already. And how about you, Maxwilly? You're strangely sounding like this is somewhat new to you as well... I don't get it... Anyway, just to name a few (prolific) threads here about this: http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/thread/4221737/Wetpaint.com+changes http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/thread/4221515/Forgive+me... http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/thread/4221294/For+everyone+complaining. I've given up trying to get better answers and information than what's already posted on those threads, specially from Jeremy. I agree with all your concerns, even though I'm hopeful the wikis will last, although not being too innovated and with tech and staff shortages, as it is apparent on the big wikis which used to be maintained by Wetpaint staff... 1 out of 1 found this valuable. I will continue to rehash it. There are many people that have invested their time and efforts in the creation of the wikis. I do not want to seem arrogant here, but I invite you to search through the threads and find out who was one of the first to bring this concern to the forefront. And there has not been an answer from WP with regards to any of those threads. Four months? How about going back to the beginning of 2010. The wiki service started to get less than hopeful around the October 2010. A month after that article. November and December were not stellar months either. And guess what? Here it is only 5 days into the new year and nothing has changed since Oct 2010. I invite you to look here for a possible insight to my concerns. A wiki that was created in Aug 2009. http://youarekiddingright.wetpaint.com/ 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Like I said, I do agree with your concerns, mostly. However, there have been some answers and explanations about this whole issue coming from Jeremy, and he speaks for Wetpaint, right? You may not be satisfied with them, but at least it's something... 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I agree.Ever since Wetpaint became two separate things, there have been more and more bugs. If that wasn't bad enough, we've been getting a crap load of spammers too. The Press Room is full of them. and I have NO way of deleting EVERY thread on there. I have deleted at least 50 threads, but there is no end. Same with Rahul's but I am actually getting close on there because the site is private. and I'll be dead honest, as far as me being a Mod on here, we have covered a few things, but not many....me anyways. I think the email system will. It's been down close to a month, so I have read. If that's the case, you would think it would be fixed already. Just like the spammer problem, which has been going on since last year and continues into this year. Now, you can't blame Jeremy, because he is saying only what Wetpaint will let him say. He is forced to say only what Wetpaint says, I am sure. I believe we have been over this before in the past about Jeremy and Wetpaint. Ever since budget cuts, cutting staff, and changing Wetpaint itself, has occurred, all hell has broken loose with bugs and spammers. and Even with the servers, which one is out of sync currently. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Yes, it is a great concern to all of us. I have put a lot of hours and time into the wiki's I am on, and it worries me one day we will just be locked out. If Wetpaint have so much money, what is it they have up their sleeves that we aren't going to benefit from? If money isn't an issue, and it doesn't appear to be, why can't they fix the problems that are here?..Surely it can't be that costly to fix up a few servers.

As for some of the other problems, if they are unable to spare their time to assist wikis then they should yield some of that responsibility to dedicated users. I for one wouldn't mind assisting other wikis in my free time, I already took over the Golden Paint Can Awards because they couldn't spare the time or man power.

And believe me, so many wikis appreciate that it's amazing. Im on a lot of sites, most of them rp and the Paint Can Awards caused such excitement it was amazing. I have been on wetpaint for 3 years now and counting and I agree that I hope my work won't just dissapear one day because those who are being paid don't have time to watch over the sites. As it is, art and layouts and such are stolen, yet because we do not pay for it to be watched, basically nothing would be done by wetpaint. It's sad, especially when there are so many users who still look at their sites as the highlights of their day

There seems to be a lot of members who have the know how..Crying Dove perhaps, who wouldn't mind donating their time once in a while if the wikis get too far out of sinc. You don't mind waiting a few weeks for minor glitches to be fixed, but months is getting insulting. They give the wiki's for free, a bit of free help in return seems fair to me. Unfortunately I wouldn't know how, but I for one would be eternally greatful. As MadHatter has said, these wikis are part of some members everyday life ..and I am one of them. 1 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Once again, I agree. But Bells, if Rich were to do that, he'd have to go to San Fransisco to access the servers, and I doubt if he's far from there, he would get on a plane and move to San Fran just to volunteer to watch the servers. and Depending on the server's size, and how many servers, it could take a lot Bells. I believe, one morning at school in my Advanced Computer Apps Class, we were watching Channel 1 News and they talked about a website's servers getting too over-loaded by spammers, and made the server crash. They also said it would take a lot of money to repair because of the size, and how many servers there were. I believe they even had to replace a server completely because it became useless after the attack. I am sure Rich could go into more details about servers and how much it costs to get servers and/or repair them. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

and I thought I would just post that I have gotten a bad server for about 10 minutes. As I post this, i'm on a bad, out-dated server. Seems to be happening more often now, for me anyways.

I stick by Jeremy. He's practically running the wikis on his own, seeing as Kevin is rarely seen.Yes, I'm not acting like this is new to me, Losa. I was part of the arguments and whatnot a long time ago, but I'm glad to see that people are still standing against it. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

"1. Are the terrible events the community has suffered since November 2010, a sampling of what is to come in the future?A short response to each question: 1. We have had to deal with some technical issues over the past few months, but we don't want these things to happen any more than you do. When they do happen we will fix them. There is no grand conspiracy to kill wikis by Wetpaint. 2. It is no secret that Wetpaint's primary focus is currently on our Entertainment platform. However, we are not stealing any hardware at the expense of the wiki platform. 3. There have been some problems with the email system, but we have no plans to ditch it completely. We want it up and running with minimal problems. 4. We are not currently developing new features for the wiki platform, but we are committed to maintaining it. 5. I am not personally devoting time to maintaining any top sites lists, but I have been fully supportive of any users who wish to keep it up to date. 6. You'll need to be more specific about this complaint. I don't have as much time to spend on WPC as I used to, but I can verify that I have addressed any of the serious problems that have occurred over the past few months. 2 out of 3 found this valuable. "Yes, I'm not acting like this is new to me, Losa. I was part of the arguments and whatnot a long time ago, but I'm glad to see that people are still standing against it."Oh, but what triggered my first response on this thread was that this issue was (and somewhat still is...) being treated as if it were something new. There had been no mention whatsoever that this Wetpaint's change of direction had happened four whole months ago already. You guys could have just rehashed one of the old threads I listed, specially the first one. So, the only purpose I see for this new thread is maybe to try to analyze what has happened in the past four months, what has changed, specially for the worst. We all suspect that the bad glitches that plagued these latest months are related to this issue, but I don't think that Wetpaint is ever going to come out and clearly admit it, so I'll just stick with this conviction of mine... 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Can't you delete the dead wikis so it gives more room for the active ones? And what does your comment mean : No.3- that you have no plans to ditch the "email system completely."
