"Other Widgets" for your Profile Workaround

Obviously if you have tried to add an "Other Widget" to your profile today you have noticed the option is gone. Wetpaint will not likely be adding it again any time soon do to spammers. I can not tell you when it will be brought back or if it will be brought back, that is for Wetpaint alone to decide.

There is a small variation for Firefox users to Internet Explorer users. Keep in mind this is all done in EasyEdit mode, you won't do any saving till the last step 4.

1. Regardless of which browser you use, open two tabs. In tab 1, open up a normal page that you can create or already have prior access to. Your homepage for example. In tab 2 open your profile. Keep in mind tab 1 can be any site as long as you have appropriate privileges to it (you can edit), while tab 2 has to be on the site you want to add the widget to your profile on .

2. Regardless once again of which browser you use, add your "Other Widget" to the page you have on tab 1. Do not save the page! Head to tab 2 and hit EasyEdit.

3. This is were variation will take place. For Firefox users in your 1st tab simply grab the little image showing your widget in EasyEdit mode, drag it up to your 2nd tab to be taken to your profile. Now simply drag your mouse to an open space on your profile and release the mouse. Internet Explorer users will follow the same method however instead of dragging the widget you will need to highlight the image and hit ctrl - c. After which head to tab 2, click an open space on your profile and finally hit ctrl - v.

4. Now click save on your profile in tab 2, you will notice you will have a fully functional widget. On tab 1 you can choose to either save or cancel depending if you want to keep the widget on that page. 11  out of 15 found this valuable. Do you?

Sorry I couldn't tell you. According to Jeremy it was in response to prevent spammers from posting harmful content on their profiles.

I have Internet Explorer. When I tried this, the ctrl-p was a shortcut for printing, even after to ctrl-c. I copy and pasted it right-click way, but when I saved my profile page, the playlist said it was empty. I save dthe other page for th eheck of it, to see if it was empty too, and it was. Is this a playlist or wetpaint problem? Do you find this valuable?

Oh that's my bad, typo. It's actually ctrl-v to paste, loss my train of thought thanks for pointing it out. What playlist are you trying to add? Do you find this valuable?

My website is one of the Reasons Jeremy removed the other widget tool-we have over 860 members, and we got attacked by about 100 automated spammers that used the other widget tool to redirect people to a drugs website-not good. I know NINE YR OLDS that visit the site! Obviously, he blocked their IP and then got the Other Widget tool for profiles removed. 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Your site, was created by a Wetpaint Employee. This probably had a lot to do with the attention and reaction the site received by the spammers and by Wetpaint. Do you find this valuable?

True, sites that are partnered with Wetpaint, have custom skins, and/or created by an employee seem to be attacked more often, most of the messages we get about spammers are coming from partner sites. Do you find this valuable?

ok so why should we have to suffer for that? Is there not some way you can control that without taking away another one of our tools for editing our site (of which they are few already)? I use playlist a lot to add music to my fan site. I don't understand how to put it on the individual pages of my site using the cut and paste method above, mostly because I have to copy an imbed code to place it on my site. I don't think there is an option to cut and paste. Frustrating..... Do you find this valuable?

The Other Widget option is available EVERYWHERE except Profiles. It's not that bad... Do you find this valuable?

that didn't work, i have tried nearlly everything and it still isnt working, and i did every step right Do you find this valuable?

It works, so you HAVE to be doing something wrong. Be sure you are doping it the right way. Make sure you didn't mess up on step three. That is where it makes a difference with which browser you are using. Do you find this valuable?

iv'e done it multiple times using both methods and it wont work... and yes i did follow it step by step. i even tried other methods Do you find this valuable?

i have ad block plus.... could that be messing it up? because i literally; word for word followed everything he said Do you find this valuable?

Yes. I have actually tried this with ad block plus on, and it blocked my Grooveshark Playlist Widget when I did it. Just be sure that it doesn't block your widget and you should be able to add it. Do you find this valuable?
