"Easy" Edit. Full of bugs, very hard to use if not impossible..
Feb 2 2009, 4:17 PM EST
I have spent numerous hours trying to get very basic settings to "stick" on my profile @http://cash-and-treasures-wiki.travelchannel.com/account/Syonix 1. When i edit the profile, all my text gets "right justified" when i click save, no matter what i do. 2. I cannot change colors of the grids without them resetting to grey e6e6e6 3. I cannot copy and paste items to the first grid without all text on my profile getting reformatted. I am very knowledgable in IT processes. I have tried on many computers, with all three major browsers, under every scenario i can think of from a QA point of view. My conclusion is that it is untenable for me to attempt any further edits to this profile. The only solution i see is to start from scratch.. After a dozen or so hours to get to this point it is almost a lost cause. Please tell me that you're going to have some serious work on this easy edit in the next release, and that it will be soon.. I have no other option. One final thing, Not a bug but a real suggestion; 1. Add an "auto alphabatize" option to a folder for sub folders, so that they could be when turned on, automatically set in a..z order. 2. or provide a way to rearrange pages quicker. Have you ever tried to manually bubble sort a 200 page sub folder.. I could do it in SQL in 5 lines, it took me 3 hours of clicking using your interface.. wickedly painful.. Or hell,do you provide any developer access so i can fix my own issues?? or write a widget to allow database tasks like rearranging sub folders or profile editing? I could and would be willing to be apart of the solution, i dont just want to be bitchin into the wind.. I do like what you've got started, it just needs work, and with the few million users on wetpaint i'd think you'd be on top of that ... yaknow? Do you find this valuable? |

First, it looks like you might be doing a majority of your work on a widescreen monitor. I suspect much of it has been done at 1920 wide. I can tell by how wide I have to open my browser window to not have a horizontal scroll bar. You might want to consider re-arranging it to be narrower so that others can see the page easily.Sometimes the HTML that our Easy Edit tool creates can get a little confused. This happens more on pages with deeply nested tables, copied and pasted content, and lots of edits trying to correct problems that only exaserbate the first problem. The best thing to do in these cases is to restart. There is a way to make it easier, I've found, however. Once in Easy edit mode, copy the content of the page. Paste the content onto a new page to save it. Now you can take individual pieces of content and put them onto a new page. Or, you can jsut delete it all and start fresh. Millions of edits are made every day, and a vast majority of them have no problem at all. Do you find this valuable? |

I am getting different results from IE vs Firefox (all latest versions/updates, cookies cleaned, tried on pcs in our test lab, (4 different units, same results on each).. also tried on my home network at lunch, same results here as well.IE seems to be trashing the cell alignment. I think i can work around this by putting each formatted line of text in its own column in another grid inside my main grid. This may work as to prevent the char10-13s from getting removed when the save button is pressed. As far as the colors, i believe you said this was in the next release so i can just wait on that.. However, if you want a repeatable scenario for your developers to use please feel free to use my profile. the first table, row 2 has the issue. both columns 0 and 1 are grey. You cannot set both columns to a different color without them resetting, or at least i can't.. So for the time being i will live with e6e6e6 as the color on those 2 columns .. I have found a viable work around by deleting my whole profile and starting over.. Do you find this valuable? |

You could try either reducing your screen resolution, or squeezing your browser.

That's why it must be related to my profile and specific arrangement of items.. I totally get that millions of edit are made every day and that means it obviously works for you and almost everyone else.. Every day of my life at work i get this. well it doesn't work for me, but it does for you .. why guy.. WHY.. :-) So I understand.. I have just decided to alter my approach to profile editing and scale it back.. The frustrating part is when I do nothing but change one columns background color, i click save and the whole document gets reformatting all right justify.. it's a major PITA.. Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my rants... Do you find this valuable? |

Also, I am on regular CRT monitors for the most part at 1280x1024..The thought of reducing to 1024x768 is a good idea i will try to optimize my profile for that. I bet it has something to do with that .. Good idea man Do you find this valuable? |

Hmm... this is odd. I have 1024*1280 resolution and I do not get these editing bugs. See if 768*1024 works better though.
