IE crashing
Sep 2 2008, 8:07 PM EDT | Post edited: Sep 2 2008, 8:07 PM EDT
For the last 2 days, IE has been crashing while I have been attempting to make edits to text within tables and any form of link. I am able to edit basic text not within a table.

IE Application Error:
The instruction at '0x7dd47ee8' referenced memory at '0x0000004'. The memory could not be 'read'.

I am running IE 6 and have cleared cookies and deleted files. 3 other users of this wiki have experienced this problem too.

Please help.

Same here. Using IE 6 sp2 and the cookies and online files have been cleared but it's still happening. Do you find this valuable?

What's the exact version string for IE that you see in Help>About Internet Explorer?

For example, I'm running 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_qfe.070227-2300

The string is 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519

Hi,

Thanks for the information - so far I have been unable to reproduce the problem with tables or links. It is possible that there's something special about the wiki/page(s) that you're editing. Can you point me to a page that is causing this problem for you?

Thanks for your message Tony. There's nothing special that I can think of - just text within a table that has a link to another page.

One of the pages giving me grief is the 'Training' page which consists of a table with links to other subpages.

I have been trying to create a link for 'Other' but as soon as I click on the word, I get the IE error msg and it crashes. (Unfortunately I work on a locked system network and cannot download Firefox or other browser which was a suggestion from Jeremy.)

Thanks very much for your ongoing assistance. ;-)

We pushed an update Tuesday evening that should fix the IE6 crashing problems, as long as you aren't running an old, unpatched version of IE6. If you continue encountering problems with IE6, and you're sure it's completely updated, please let us know.

Thanks for your message Phil - it looks like all is working well again with IE. I've been able to edit tables and links, so all is looking good. Thanks very much to the Wetpaint team for their assistance.

After success with editing for a few days, I'm sorry to have to report I've had an issue with IE crashing today. (Again, I've deleted cookies/files before writing.)

I was editing a page to change the background colour of a table cell.

I get as far as 'Edit Table Cell' but once I click 'Change' it crashes with the same IE error message I've reported before.

Thanks for the report, we'll take another look.

Have you given any thought to upgrading to IE7 or switching to Firefox? We still support IE6, but we probably won't much longer after IE8 is released.

I work on a network that our IT police(!) manage pretty closely so I can't download or change browsers. I use Firefox at home and have no problems with my wiki there but don't want my day to day gig coming home with me. >;-) Do you find this valuable?
