Compare contrast research on dictators
Oct 9 2007, 8:57 PM EDT
I am a high school English teacher, and I just used the wiki to collaborate comparative research between two Eng1 classes on dictators. I am a bit worried by the comments students have posted on the wiki pages. Should I have the comments filtered so the commenter must be a registered student and be required to identify himself or herself? View the comments on the following wiki: www.eng1lfcisd.wetpaint.com and let me know what you think. 5  out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?

This wiki is private so to get in you have to invite them and they have to sign in to post comments anyway.

Requiring the students to be signed in could certainly increase accountability for their comments. Making the site private is one way to do it, another would be to just change the permissions settings so that anonymous comments are not allowed. The only other option would be to manually delete any comments that you find inappropriate. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

The students have to sign in in order to reply, but yes, i think that enonymous comments should not be posted. Do you find this valuable?

Do you know all the usernames of the students? The students could create another account to post "bad" threads. Even if it was I private site then they could invite their other account. These are some other things to think about. Also remember that you can track the students IP using widgets so you know who it is. Sitemeter tracks how many people visit your site and their IPs. Try adding it so you can catch out your students. If you need anything explained in more detail then click my picture and then view profile. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
