Please Help Save the "Popular Keyword Tags" Feature!
Jun 22 2007, 8:28 AM EDT 1. The latest release of wetpaint "dropped" (like a bomb I must say) this critical feature as 0f 06/20/07 2. Many existing wetpaint sites use the standard navigation menu to refer to content types (articles, photos, videos, documents, links) then use the Popular Keyword Tags to cross reference the content types by subject keywords to provide a rich set of navigational "clues" for new users of a site. (i.e. like a card catalog in a multimedia Library) 3. Removing the "Popular Keyword Tags" is analogous to having your Card Catalog removed by the Librarian from your websites! Bummer indeed! 4. Wetpaint Central suggests they will remedy this blunder by displaying these Tags AFTER you search for something in the Search box. This is analogous to now asking you, the site user, to first ask the Librarian to see the Card Catalog in the back room to find content. How absurd. Please help me in getting this feature back. I would really like to see them reistalled as they are a very useful navigation tool and becoming standard operating proceedure in many Web 2.0 sites. Also I agree that having to search first is silly. Some people like to search, some people like to browse. Good sites accomodate both. Carmen Kazakoff-Lane p.s. I noticed they were gone and was trying to figure out why. There was no notice. I thought I did something wrong and was struggling all week to find out what settings were wrong. Thanks fo the notice. Your users don't have to search, they can simply click on a link that you put on any page you like. http://YourWikiName.wetpaint.com/pageSearch I'd appreciate it if you kept your discussions of this in one place. Jun 27 2007, 2:15 PM EDT If you want, move this thread to the 06/20/07 release comment area. As a newbie I did post my concerns in 3 places, first as an email to support, then as a Q and A and last as a comment on the 06/20/07 release. Until you started to move some of them to the 06/20/07 area I did not know that all were moderated by the same wetpaint folks. In the future I will keep them in one place per your suggestion and I apologize for causing this extra work on your part. As far as your suggestion about placing a link to the future Search page, as I previously explained, I am ok with that as long as you display ALL tags on that page as the default (similar to your original Popular Keyword Tags). I also agree with another users Reply where they expressed a preference for having a settings option to display it on the Homepage too. Striking a balance between letting users having appearance settings options versus preventing them from mis-using them (like many myspace pages) is a difficult decision I'm sure. Like you, I want WetPaint to be the best wiki on the planet! Do you find this valuable? |
