I hadn't considered that, MK. Still, I'm mostly an open-page Wiki-ist. Censorship, even self inflicted, isn't my cup of tea. It sets a bad precedent for future upgrades.

As for setting it to remember me, that kind of defeats the purpose of a PW, since using that feature would permit any other person who is even slightly intelligent to hack the page. Better just to let others edit or add content and keep an eye on their choices. It's my creation in some cases, so I'm very fussy about what's said or which pics are posted. That's more than enough watchfulness for me.

This is only optional. If this comes out in a future release, you have the ability to choose whether or not you want some pages to be publicly viewable.

Madusha said at the creation of this thread that he wanted certain users not to be able to see some pages, let alone edit them. The option of restricting editing pages to Writers (or Moderators) is already usable. He wanted some pages to be 'hidden' from the rest of the users, i.e. when they go to that page, it would say "This page needs a password. Please enter the correct password." or something like that, so that they can't view the content of the page. This would help a lot. For example. some sites may want to use a restricted page as a 'Mod/Admins Section' where they dicuss the ongoing of the site etc.

As for a solution to remember all those passwords, you could just type them and send them in an e-mail to yourself, or save the e-mail as a draft. That way, you don't need to remember them, and nobody else can see them.

Yeah this would be a GREAT feature because I want one page on my site to be viewable by only certain members. Password protection would work, or an option of selecting which members can view it and which cannot. Anonymous people could not view the page... 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

"on any one wiki, you'd like some pages that only the moderators and admins can see?"
That would be a start.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to specify who can access different pages, preferably by member name, but it would be OK for a while if it was done by permission level.

Any hope of getting this?

"This site is all about inter-connectivity between users, so PW protected pages and threads would defeat the purpose. "
Yeah, that's both the best and the worst feature of wikis in general.

I'd like an easy-to-edit interactive site, but I'd also like to be able to control exactly WHO can interact WHERE, as well as WHO can read WHAT. The only option right now is to have different Wetpaing places for each, and that could get to be a nightmare real quick.

I think that you should be able to promote writers that can only edit certain page. This willl prevent vandilism that happened in the past on my wikis 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Vandalism or over-eager editing by a fellow wiki-ist? That's a fine line, but I sympathize with your problem. I'd hate for anyone to edit the stories I'm writing without my consent, so I simply lock the page to anyone below a Mod. That seems to resolve it for me. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I'd be a big fan of passwrd protected pages on the main site--right now we have a "sister" site for that...this would be much better. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I can't believe this is still being discussed and debated! It's such a basic and expected feature I spent a lot of time figuring out that it couldn't be done. Please add this. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

"This feature is now out.

Josh"
Can you tell me how would I set a password for my wiki? I was unable to find this in the FAQ section. I just set up an educational wiki to be used by hundreds of students over the course of two years, so I'd hate to have to invite each and every one. Still, I don't want just any user not in my classes to register and be able to edit pages. It would be great if I could distribute a classroom password instead so that only those with the password can register and edit.

"hi ithink there should be password protected pages or only selected users can view some pages."
WE are using this site for an organization and would like to offer a member's only section that would be password protected. This would be a really great enhancement.

This seems like a great idea. I'd like having pages only certain people could view... for example only mods and up could view certain pages, others would be acessable by a select group of users, etc. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
