External Links
Apr 27 2007, 8:05 AM EDT
The #1 Most Important change I think that needs to be made is to either make it possible for External Links to be OR to current window OR to new "_blank" window. I'd even be happy if ALL External Links were opened in a new-separate window.

You spend so much time & energy getting people to visit your site, and with the first mouse clicxk you lose them to an outside resource!

Try changing your browser preferences. In Firefox preferences, click on Tabs and check the box to "Force links that open new windows to open in:" and then choose either "the same tab/window as the link" OR "a new tab". I don't use Internet Explorer but version 7 has tabbed browsing and most like is customizable from the preference settings too. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

That is a good suggestion -- however, it involves getting Wiki visitors to do something extra -- and they have to find the instructions and care to use them.

Better would be the opportunity to add code for the equivalent of "target_blank" when creating the link.

That's odd. Whenever I follow external links (external = not linking to another wetpaint site) it opens in a new window. Do you find this valuable?

This is because you can set your browser to open links in a new tab or window. I believe most browsers are set to do this by default.

All external links are automatically given target="_blank". This will open those links in a new window. You won't see this immediately after you save your changes, but it will show up when you refresh the page.

If you have an external link that isn't doing this, please point it out to me.
