Problems with fonts....
Feb 10 2012, 11:09 AM EST
Greetings, WPC Staff!I find that I'm having issues placing fonts on NGOG (Noble Guardians of Ga 'Hoole) that aren't the pre-installed WP fonts, such as Garamond, Arial, Courier, etc. I've been following the step-by-step instructions mentioned by "walrusworldstudios" on this thread: http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/thread/4324903/Text I have Notepad++, and I've been taking a Web Development course to refine my skills with HTML, but so far I've been unable to put fonts on my webpage that are visible to the entire NGOG community. I've been uploading all my desired fonts from www.dafont.com, and I've installed them onto my computer. I then do -everything- that WWW calls for on the "Text" thread: 1.) Open blank page in Notepad++ 2.) Insert HTML code: <p> <font face="insert font name here">Insert text here</p> 3.) Insert font name, and desired text read-out 4.) Save document as an "All Files" file type, then add ".html" to end of file name 5.) Run document with Internet Explorer 6.) Copy text read-out and paste the selection onto website After I save the page that I'm working on, I'm able to see the new font types, but none of the other members on NGOG (RUs, Mods, Admins, etc.) are able to see them! When they view the page that I've edited, they're only able to see the new font translated as Garamond, or some other pre-installed WP font. The only reason why I'm still able to see these new fonts is because I have them installed on my computer, but no one else does. Is there some way for me to upload the new fonts so that -everyone- can see them, and not just me? Thanks for reading! -Grand Do you find this valuable? |

Browsers can use only the fonts installed in each computer, so it means that every visitor of your page needs to have all the fonts you want to use installed in his/her computer. That is a fact you have discovered. The web safe fonts that WP offers are guaranteed to be on everyone's computer PC/MAC alike.WWW's methodology will work for everyone when they use fonts that are bundled with their operating system. This means that everyone will have the font installed on their system. Here is a list of bundled fonts that are installed on all PC and MAC computers. These are the only fonts that can be used. http://www.ampsoft.net/webdesign-l/WindowsMacFonts.html Most webmasters find it most advantageous to use non-common fonts by creating an image of the text with the font desired. Then use the image as headers or sub-headers or titles on their pages. This allows all to see the the font without the font being on a viewer's computer. Veiw this page for examples and further instructions on using Fonts with WP. http://splats2.wetpaint.com/page/Use+More+Fonts Do you find this valuable? |

Some modern browsers do have functionality to download a font and display it on any user's computer. Alternatively, Google offer a font service which you can use for user's that don't have an up-to-date browser: http://www.google.com/webfonts . However, I don't think this would work on Wetpaint so you would probably be better off using CryingDove's image suggestion.

Oh, thank you!!! I had a vague notion that this was the source of all my problems with the fonts and... hehe... what do you know? ;) Only MAC/'PC supported fonts can be seen on WP webpages! I checked out some of the websites that you mentioned and they were truly helpful! Thankies, Dove! ^-^ And thanks for your comment as well, DigitalX... I've used Google's webfonts before, but as you said, I don't think they'll work on the WP platform. It couldn't hurt to try though... I'll come back to this thread if I have any 'breakthroughs' with the font setup.
