Flickr Badge Widget anyone?
Feb 9 2007, 8:30 AM EST
Anyone have a resource for a widget that includes a flickr badge? I know they are out there. But I'm looking for one that will work in the wetpaint environment.

Thanks!

I love flickr! Can you elaborate on what kind of widget you're talking about though? Do you find this valuable?

There are multiple sources for Flickr Badge type widgets. Google has them. Yahoo has them. Individual widget creators have them, as well as the flickr site's own badges too. They have one that's html based and one that's a flash badge too. I realize the html based badge doesn't meet the criteria for the widgets here at wetpaint. But I thought I'd be able to add the flash based one. When looking at the code it appears to be in <iframe> tags.... although it's surounded by script tags. I played with it a while, and just had no luck. Was hoping to find a source with a flickr badge widget that would work in the wetpaint invironment. Here's a link to a page with several choices on it. None of which I've been successful with here at wetpaint. http://flickrtools.blinklist.com/tag/flickr%20widgets/

I've created and installed these badges on various blogs and websites elsewhere though. I really like them. Was hoping to have a savvier person than me figure this one out. Would appreciate anything you could offer in this direction!

Thanx a Million!

The Flash based one on Flickr won't work because it uses JavaScript. I'll keep my eyes open for one that will work on Wetpaint though. Do you find this valuable?

If it's not too much trouble I'd love to hear how you did it, and I'm sure there are others that would like to know too. Do you find this valuable?

To do this, one needs to know a bit about HTML and specifically the iframe codes. Basically I just used the HTML, IFrame codes along with the Widget options to include it from another HTML based webpage.

The Steps I used were:
1. Built my HTML page to include the widget and a set of links to pages in my flickr albums - then posted this page online. ( I have my own domain. But if I didn't I could have used one of the kazillion free sites available.)
2. Went into the "Easy Edit" window for the page on my wiki where I wanted to include my flickr badge.
3. Accessed the widget controls and chose the "Other Widget" option.
4. In the code box I typed in the iframe code with the associated parameters so the widget would show my external html page in an iframe.

Walah! - My flickr badge now shows on my wiki page.

TIPS:
-- Since links on any page nested inside an iframe, will open within the same iframe, I used the "_blank" parameter on the links that I wanted to open in a new browser window. That way my iframe stayed intact and doesn't change.
-- I set the background color on my html page to be the same as the color in my wetpaint wiki style template, so the viewer would see no difference in the page.

---------------------------
I'll put together a tutorial (for here and on the moderators lounge) on how to use the iframe code inside the "other widget". As it can be used for many different purposes. I'll try to post it this weekend if time allows.

Hi I'm trying to get the code right, its such a long time since I've fiddled around with HTML
that I can't remember if I'm doing this right.

Where do i place the embed code to embed my flickr badge ?
