Problems with moving threads...
Feb 2 2012, 7:26 PM EST | Post edited: Feb 2 2012, 7:27 PM EST
Hello, WPC Staff!

I've been having some issues relocating a thread to a sub-section of my website. For some reason, the thread-editing feature only allows me to move it just once... and then that's as far as I can get (I read the instructions for thread relocation on the FAQ but it's not that informative). This was completely uncalled-for, seeing that mods+ are able to move actual PAGES more than once, to any section/ sub-section of a WP site. In selecting a new location for these pages, the page that we are currently editing will become a subpage of the page that is selected. This feature does not apply to the thread relocation process (as far as I can tell), but I believe it would be a major boon for WP sites if this was made applicable. Is there a back-route that is used to define a path for these threads? If so, then please do tell! Thanks for reading! ;)

The structure of Wetpaint wikis is set up so certain functions like moving threads require a specific permission level. Anonymous, writers and regular users do not have the ability to move threads. Moderators and above, can position the thread without limit as to how many times and where the thread is to be placed. Moving threads is considered part of the site maintenance which is left to the moderation team who will see a drop down menu labeled Moderator Tools. .

If you are a moderator or above, moving the thread to a page should not be an issue. The thread will be assigned to that page and it will move with the page if the page is moved. And the thread can be removed from that page and assigned to another.

If you are referencing assigning a thread to a category, the same applies. It will follow the category and page assignment.

The above are general descriptions of moving threads. Now for specifics you need to supply. Are you talking about the noble gardians of gahoole wiki, where you are an administrator? I see one attempt to move a thread on that wiki where a thread was being moved. I will join and we can see what is going on at that wiki. And we can message there to get the issue resolved.

Thanks for helping out, Dove! To date, I am still unable to move threads to sub-pages of NGOG, but I have plenty of able-bodied staff members who are willing to do it for me. ;) Do you find this valuable?

I checked out your account and it shows you as an administrator for the site. I can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to move threads. I tried changing your role to registered user and then back to admin. Give it a try now and see what happens. Do you find this valuable?

Hmm... this is strange. As soon as I go to "Moderator Tools" and select "Move Thread", I get a pop-up menu that shows me the site's main directory (this is normal for me). I click on a section that I want to move the thread to and then press "Select Location", but menu still doesn't expand for me to list the sub-pages. I tried waiting for five minutes to see if the sub-pages would appear on the directory but there was still no sign of them.

As I said before... as soon as I press "Select Location", after making my selection, it takes me directly to that page, without listing the sub-pages. Even after the thread has been moved, I only have the option of selecting pages from the main directory, instead of the sub-pages. For instance (since NGOG is a fantasy roleplay site), my thread selection appears in this order:

Thread Location: Home > Southern Kingdoms

The problem is, I still can't get the thread to move to a sub-page of the section entitled "Southern Kingdoms", so I've been counting on some of my staff members to do it for me. Even after you refreshed my account, I am still unable to perform these basic thread-editing functions. :( But it was worth a try! Thanks for your consideration! CryingDove has already gone the extra mile to help me, but I'm not sure if the situation will ever be resolved, unless I create a second account for myself on NGOG. Even if I do this, there's still no guarantee that I'll be able to move threads the way I want to.

I should have asked this in the beginning. What browser and version are you using? Do you find this valuable?

I'm using Internet Explorer Version 8.0... I was wondering the same thing; that is, if the browser version had anything to do with the thread-moving issue...? Do you find this valuable?

May I ask you to download Firefox. This will be just for a test. It will have no add-ons involved. Test to see if you are still having the issue with moving threads. If not, then it is something wrong with IE and we can go from there.

Grr... the same issue is popping up again. I still cannot access the subpages of NGOG when moving a thread to a different location. O.o D-d-does...th-this mean that my computer is d-d-dying? O___o I downloaded the free, updaded version of Mozilla Firefox (10.0) from the browser's main website... but I've encountered the same roadblock as before. The sub-pages of NGOG do not appear on the thread-moving menu... even after 3-5 minutes. I refresh the page and try again, but nothing works. -.- *grumbles and pecks at computer screen* Do you find this valuable?
