Custom URL was taken over

I have a wetpaint wiki site: anitawiki,wetpaint.com . I am the creator/administrator.I had a custom URL www.anitablakewiki.com It had been set-up by Alex Berg. This has been in place for many years. I recently discovered that this registry expired and has been taken over and now after many years of making this a valuable go-to site, getting this URL back is not going top happen - premium charge of close to $9000.00 at GoDaddy. My problem is that I cannot seem to get to my site with its original wetpaint address to change the settings in regaards to the custom URL. I keep getting shunted to the custom URL when I enter it in the address bar? How can I get to my site to chnage this and send out a communication to all my members. I am looking into getting a replacement URL but it looks like this is a premium service now, I want to know if I change the current associated URL if I will fall under the old or new pricing. Thank you, Crying Dove.There are currently no items listed in my hosts file.Alas, windows 7 is not letting me update it. Using your network solutions URL I was able to get a IP for the custom URL value, but not the wetpaint wiki name. I will look into the permissions issue. From GoDaddy.com: AnitaBlakeWiki.com is a Premium Domain Name and is available for C$8,816.75* (This was the custom URL that I had been using up until the end of 2011.) Premium Domain Names are more valuable than other domains because they are based on common words or phrases people often use in their online searches. From what I am reading in this section having a custom URL for your WETPAINT wiki is now a premium service. It wasn't when I originally started my wiki and had it set-up. This was in 2007. Do you find this valuable? |

Thanks for the update. I did work out the permissions issue to allow me to upate the hosts file.I was just coming back to let you know that it had no effect. I have now applied the change to the winsxs location. It did not have an immediate affect. I will reboot later and see if that makes a difference. It is a shame, I had a great SEO presence with that custom URL as can be seen by the price that GoDaddy now wants for it. Do you find this valuable? |

Please let me know if you are successful or not. If not, I will contact a person at Wetpaint and see if they can backdoor your wiki from the server side and make the necessary changes. The instructions in my first reply came from a Wetpaint employee. edited post As a matter of convience, I have sent them an email, just in case it doesn't work. Do you find this valuable? |

Again, thank you, as I am still getting shunted to the Custom URL www.anitablakewiki.com when I put the actual address of anitawiki.wetpaint.com in the address line of my browser.I have tried clearing my cache, flushing dns, and pinging anitawiki.wetpaint.com - it uses the IP listed in the hosts file (I have the change in both locations) but it times out. I do need additional help to get to my wetpaint wiki site. Do you find this valuable? |

I received a message from Jeremy_wetpaint. He says he removed the custom doman name and your wiki should be accessible now.
