Odd Browser Identification
Jan 18 2012, 3:07 PM EST
Hello Wetpaint,I am returning to Wetpaint Central on a new account, after a multiple year haitus, and I was editing my profile, and I noticed that I didn't have all the normal editing tools. After clicking on the text telling me where the tools where, it said that Wetpaint is not 100% supported on Safari, yada yada yada. The odd thing was: I was on chrome. Is this a bug? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Safari and Google Chrome run on the same engine. Neither of those browsers are supported by Wetpaint. Tools in Easy Edit mode will be missing from both. Read this page on supported browsers.http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Browser+Support Do you find this valuable? |

I am sorry, I missed the gist of your thread.Wetpaint, has a browser check routine in their code to check for supported browsers.(IE and FF) Since there are so many browsers on the internet, it really cannot produce an alert for all of them. So it alerts on the most popular unsupported browser at the time if writing the code. It is not a bug, it is a short coming on the alert message. To handle the alert more accurately, it should read "The browser used is an unsupported browser, Please use Internet Explorer or Firefox". Here is a partial list of WebKit engine browsers.(non-supported) Konqueror Safari Google Chrome iCab OmniWeb Web Browser for S60 Android Shiira Arora Midori ABrowse and Sunrise Wetpaint supported browsers run on a Gecko based engine. That list is long also, but includes Firefox and IE.(which are fully supported) The rest may have some idiosyncrasies that may not produce unexpected results. Hope this explains it a little further than my first reply. Do you find this valuable? |
