Problems with my educational WIKI,
Dec 8 2011, 1:41 PM EST
1. There is no place to invite new users. We have changed staff in the last few months and I was trying to invite them to the WIKI. When I looked at inviting new menbers on this WIKI, I was directed to the top rt. side. where I should find My Profile Inbox Settings Invite. On my educational WIKI, there is My Profile Inbox, Settings. There is no Invite. 2. There are ads on my WIKI. I see where this hopefully will get changed. 3. Does anyone know of a better WIKI, The problems with Wetpaint get worse as the years go by. I'm getting very tired with sturggling to post, especially when I use tables. I'm getting very tired with the inability to control memberships, etc. etc.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

1. The invite feature for private sites was discontinued years ago. The reason given by Wetpaint employees is that the feature was too difficult to support. The reality is that Wetpaint's developers stopped working on this platform long ago. Invites were suffering difficulties, but they didn't want to waste time on a platform that wasn't making them enough money to be worth it.2. We are hoping that Wetpaint will get on this, though with the way things are these days no one can really tell. Jeremy has informed us that the developers at Wetpaint are essentially forbidden to spend a single minute of their time working for the old platform, so I'm not going to make any guesses as to when this will be fixed. 3. In the words of CryingDove - you're asking for "something for nothing," and it isn't likely that you're going to find any platform out there that offers ad-free, fully functional sites for educators. Sorry. BA 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

With regards to finding another platform to use, try doing a Google search on these keywords.Wiki Host Comparison. This should bring up sites that will actually compare wiki farms in the areas of features, costs, html and java support, advertising/no advertising costs. This may assist you making the right decision for your educational site. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

It seems the real problem is members. I can't invite new members, and I can't add new members. We have 5 new staff and I can't add them and they can't read the Wiki. So it is becoming usuless. Guess that is good for Wetpaint. PS. Know anything about Silk?

To invite a new member to a private wiki, the following has to be done.If you have a private site you will need to change the site permissions settings to make the site public so that invited users can join. Once members have joined, the site can be made private again. You must have Administrator or Creator privileges to make these changes. Here is a link to instructions on how to change the site settings, http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Site+Settings 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

They can read the site if you go to 'Settings' and click the 'Permissions' tab and make the site Public, let the staff join, then go back to Permissions and make it Private again.(This is the work-around made for no more invites on private sites.) -Clay 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Thanks. It is a work around, Not one I favor, but one that may work while I look for a new way to post material our staff needs to know, but which we don't want the general public to read.
