SUGGESTION: Paid upgrade Pack with User Implemented Ad's
Aug 6 2011, 10:16 PM EDT
Not too sure if Wetpaint is gonna keep updating the wiki platform, but here's something I really need. Why not have a paid upgrade pack for say, about $15/month that allows a wiki to implement their own ads. Or this could be implemented in the current package that removes the Wetpaint Ad's. This is the only thing that's missing for me from Wetpaint. If a separate package is set up, the cost should vary depending on the number of hits the wiki receives. I think the best option would be is to add this to the current premium package as this won't be very popular as a standalone package but it will definitely increase the number of people purchasing the ad-free package. Do you find this valuable? |

MMMmm...I certainly wouldn't want to be adding my own adds to my wiki.

Hi my friend Madusha,I would like to give my opinion on what you are asking. Great idea I must say. The only drawback is REAL ESTATE. Hot spots on a page where advertisers want their ads. See this page for a diagram of Google Adsense Hot Spots. It is the standard for most ad distributors. http://splats2.wetpaint.com/page/Ad+This+To+Your+Page Wetpaint allows for 100,000 ad impressions free before they do revenue sharing with the ad distributors. An ad impression is tallied when a page is loaded, a link to the ad distributor is launched and the ad to be placed on the page is fetched. The distributor counts how many times this happens. When the count reaches above 100,000 the ad distributor sends Wetpaint shared revenue. The revenue from the ad is determined by its location on the page. Ads more toward the top center of the page warrant more revenue versus an ad down at the bottom of the page. (Plus there are other factors involved) You are under the impression that it would be easily incorporated. This may not be correct. It takes a bit of javascript to put an ad onto a page. Some of which is developed by the distributors and Wetpaint incorporates that javascript code into the wiki page codes. The only real estate WP would be willing to give up is their teaser ad to the left of the banner ad or a link in the footer area of a page to your wiki (Which, in the past used to highlight some of our wikis. But have since, been sucked up by Wetpaint's branded partners) IMO, Wetpaint will ignore your suggestion. Do you find this valuable? |
