The Picture Problem
Aug 2 2011, 10:51 AM EDT | Post edited: Aug 2 2011, 10:51 AM EDT
I know you don't want anymore threads about this but I just have a question. When will it be fixed? I can't add banners on my site or anything yet and it really needs them. How long do you think it will take to be fixed. Sorry for the thread. Just curious. 3  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?
Regret.
Regret.

Well, we all are curious about that, though it's best not to rush wetpaint with those problems. It will be fixed when it gets fixed, nothing's for sure. :S 1  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

Yes, why tell them to get a move on with a bug that renders most pages unreadable? It's not like it's much of an issue when a page with say, 7 pictures only renders 3 of them.

Can we at least get an update? Has the problem been identified? How long will it take to fix? 3  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

They will let you know when it will be fixed. Judging by Wetpaints past time for fixing things, I am thinking it will be Thursday or Friday. 1  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

I find your reply on this point quite nonchalant and dismissive Clay. The reason people keep posting about this issue is because Wetpaint can't be bothered to provide an update. A green square stating there are problems with images doesn't help. We know there's a problem with images because we can't upload any onto our sites. I've been staring at that same green box for several days and it hasn't changed so you guys constantly asking me to look at it is wearing thin.

Wetpaint should proviude an update. If it can't be fixed or the will to fix it isn't there just let us know and we'll find alternatives and leave you guys in peace. A bit of transparency is called for, not dismissive comments to its users. We're not idiots so don't treat us as such.

Clay does not work for wetpaint - he is a community moderator. If you want to bug someone about this, bug Jeremy_Wetpaint, who is an actual wetpaint employee.

Whilst I too find this immensely frustrating, you have to realize that Wetpaint is putting the stuff they get the money for first. It doesn't mean they are evil or wicked - it means that they are trying to earn a living. I think it is actually very nice of them to keep the wiki platform going, even though they aren't updating it. Sure, there are a billion things that could be improved. But at least it's still going.

Some of us do pay WP money every month (to remove ads) and since they do have ads on our wikis (unless you pay to remove them), they presumable make money from the ads. They still have a means to earn money from our WP sites.

I had actually posted in another thread that I felt that their handling of this was very unprofessional. The thread was deleted!! Not sure if it was deleted due to that comment or someone else's comment on the same thread, but why delete it? People are obviously frustrated - just give an update!

pay money wow your site must not get a lot of visitors cause didnt they say for every 20,000 visits they will charge you an extra 20$ a month? who the heck would pay something like that. Download an adblocker and you can block their ads. If I payed for them to remove those barely noticable ads I would be paying about 1000 dollars a month for them to remove their ads. Kinda pointless when so many people have ad blockers and cant even see their ads so doesnt matter if you buy it or not.

Well you certainly do have a very popular site and I congratulate you. I will admit that I don't have that many visitors a day. My site is a fan wiki for a very popular HBO series, and there are a lot of sites for this particular series to choose from so I feel lucky that I have an average of 3000 or so visitors per month.
With the new format WP has, we are working with a limited amount of space, and it is nice not to have the ads pop up everywhere. I tried the ad blocker that was suggested by WP, but it caused some problems in other areas. Maybe I didn't know what the heck I was doing. You have something that works for you and that is great, but I am happy with paying so there are no ads.
My point was that some of us are still making money for WP and we should be given the same consideration as the big money makers who get first priority. After all, we were here first!

My bad! I don't think the ad blocker was suggested by WP, but by a member of the site, Crying Dove. :O

I am not treating ANYONE like they are idiots. Never have, nor will I ever do so.
As Bells said, I am just a volunteer, and do not work for Wetpaint.
Unless I am told by Jeremy to post an update, or he posts an update himself, what I say is ALL I can say. If I was in San Francisco working with Wetpaint, i'd give you updates, but i'm all the way across the US from them, in Georgia. I am sorry this is all I can tell you guys, but it is what it is. I apologize for being a useless piece of trash to you guys when I don't/can't have/give updates on problems with Wetpaint. I apologize for that.

Some people just can't seem to appreciate all the hard, dedicated and for free work you do around here, as well as the reason why you don't and can't know any more than the rest of us about this, Clay. That's really sad.
You have my full support and respect, though (as I'm sure you have from the rest of us regulars here), so chin up and carry on, man!

I'll still say one more thing: this problem with the images not showing up has been creating *huge* outcry and an insane amount of new threads around here, almost too much to handle. Maybe because it's extremely visible and apparent to everyone. I haven't been replying to any of those threads because you said those threads would be deleted, Clay. However, it seems you have just been locking them after a quick reply. If you want I can help with some of those quick replies you have been making, until Wetpaint *finally* decides to fix this. Just holla about it.
