my Fun with FCE page has been taken over by someone called teacher Jim

I've not been into my account a little over a year and now find that another teacher (?) has taken over this page/site for themselves. the address is funwithfce.wetpaint.com.
Can I do anything about it? I would like to keep the site and domaine name and am planning to refresh it for a new group of students. HELP !!

I'm not really questioning what you say, ckwok, but the only other person on that site besides you is "teacherJim", who is listed as site creator (no less), all the way back since June 10, 2008, and it seems this person put the site together in only two days and then left, since he was last active in June 12, 2008.
I would suggest sending this teacherJim person a message asking to make you an administrator so you can have full privileges on the site as well, but since that person has been totally inactive for so long, I don't think that would do any good.

After this long and at this point, seems to me you could be the one claiming it is an abandoned site by now and take it over yourself, even though it is up to Wetpaint to decide. Try sending a message explaining your case to Jeremy, the administrator here:

Just remember to be patient for an answer, as it may take a while.

You just joined that site ckwok. That is THEIR site. Not yours. You have NO privileges on that site, nor do you own it. They are the creator, and I will go ahead and tell you that Jeremy will just tell you to create your own site, so create your own site. You can do so here:
http://www.create.wetpaint.com/wiki
Just don't copy their information, because that's against the law. ;)

There is no way that teacher_jim has taken over that wiki from you. He is the creator of the wiki. A wiki can only have one creator. And the creation date of the wiki clearly shows that teacher_jim created that wiki in June of 2008 and added all the content to that wiki.

It has been my experience, some educators and others are confusing a wiki, with a page on a wiki. Many have been taught that a page and sub-pages on a wiki can be used as one's personal wiki, instead of one's personal pages on a wiki.

You may have added a page named funwithfce on a wiki. That page name will appear in the URL address of that page, but there will be another portion of the URL address that will reflect the wiki where that page resides. e.g. http://.harard.wetpaint.com/page/funwithfce

You may want to log in to Wetpaint and at the top right of the screen, click on "My Wetpaint". This will list all the wikis you have either created or joined. Look for a wiki that may contain a page that you may have created a page named funwithfce. Disregard teacher_jim's "funwithfce.wetpaint.com" wiki, that you joined today, for that clearly is not the wiki being sought.

Certainly looks like it. The lesson of this story: Remember the URL of your site! (And you can always find it under My Sites).

Also bookmark all your sites, for quicker access. Another tip I thought I might add. ;)
