Malware warning... Is back?
May 28 2011, 11:37 PM EDT | Post edited: May 28 2011, 11:37 PM EDT
Okay, so the Malware warning from 2009 is back. However, it does not effect Windows 7, it only happens with Windows Vista.

Also, it is rather different. Instead of "Antivirus 360" or whatever, it comes up saying that you need to purchase the full version of "Vista Virus Protector" or something like that.

So I was on Wetpaint one day, when suddenly, a virus scan popped up on my computer down at my grandmother's house. It was saying that Windows Firewall had "expired', and that my computer was filled with viruses and malware because of that.

So, has anyone else been infected with this HUGE virus? It could just be me, but who knows.

Also, it can only be repaired by system reboot.

I have yet to experience this... I'm running Vista. Although, I do have an Ad-Blocker...
I'll look into it.

Then maybe it is just me. But I don't know. Do you find this valuable?

Are you sure it wasn't from another open tab? Did you have anything else open at the time? Do you find this valuable?

I did, actually. I had the The Sims 2 website opened in another tab. Maybe it was TS2 all along... But that is doubtful, considering it happened on another account on the same computer while I was on Wetpaint. Do you find this valuable?

The Sims 2 is amazing. Has kept me amused for many years. Continues to do so. Sims 3 sucks.

Back on topic however, I'm not too sure. Tell me if it pops up again. If it does, try and make note of everything that was running on your computer at the time, and all the tabs you had open. That should help shed some light on the issue.

(Hee hee. Same here. The Sims 2 is the best of the series.)

I'll be looking out for it on the computer I got it on, and I'll make a report if it happens again.

I was on wetpaint when a malware warning popped up. It wanted me to download the full version or somthing. It said I had like, 212 viruses or somthing. I shut down wetpaint and scanned everything and nothing appeared! I was on windows 7 and on a laptop. Then the other day I was on windows 8 and the same thing happened. I only had wetpaint open and am super confused! Please help!

I'll alert Jeremy to scan ads for fake malware warning(s). If you guys could, please take screen shots when you receive it (if you receive it again). Me and Cameron both have Ad Blocker Plus, so I think it might be an Ad infected since neither of us have received the warning.

and Yes there is a Windows 8, but it's only the BETA version.

If anyone sees this kind of fake antivirus warning, take note of what ads are being served up in the ad slots on the page. If you can point us to a specific ad it will make it easy to pull it. Take a screen shot if possible. Do you find this valuable?

Okay, then! I'll try and get some shots if it happens again!

However, it has not affected the computer that I am currently using (a Windows 7 eMachines Desktop) at all. It has only affected my grandmother's Windows Vista eMachines (yes, we love our eMachines) Desktop.

So, next time I go down to her house, I'll catch some screenshots with a Camera rather than Print Screen, because the way we get rid of it is by system reboot, which means any screenshots saved on the PC will be removed in the process... I think... Considering after we did a system reboot, my Aunt's account was removed (I did a reboot of two weeks before the most recent update).
