It's 2011 and you don't support Chrome?

Don't presume all users are limited to IE and FF. The web doesn't work that way. I have several friends who use Safari, Chrome, Opera, Avant, Flock, Seamonkey, Konqueror, Shiira, or something more bizaare. Also, it's silly to list the operating systems WetPaint supports. Only the browser matters. Then again, for appearances' sake, you do well to pad your list: Internet Explorer, Firefox. That's it. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

The process of making all browsers consistent across the internet is a daunting one. It will never come into existence without a standard to use in rendering the different coding. Html, dhtml, html5 and the myriad of others. W3C.org is pushing for that standard. Not all browsers adhere to the standard (IE for sure does not). Wetpaint chose to develop their platform around two browser layout engines. Trident layout engine (MS) and the Gecko layout engine (Mozilla). The deveolpment team at Wetpaint is working on a third engine that being Webkit layout engine, which is the base engine used by Chrome and Safari.Without writing separate routines and doing a cross-browser check and redirecting the user to the appropriate routine to match a specific browser, Wetpaint comes close to having IE and FF compatible with one set of code. There are a couple of reasons that the Operating Systems are listed. e.g. Internet Explorer 9. will not work with Vista unless you have SP 2 installed. The next release of Internet Explorer will not be compatible with Windows XP. Plus there are other differences in the bundling of software in the OS that could result in issues when used with Wetpaint. There is no presumption that all users use Firefox and Internet Explorer for the internet. But if you want to use Wetpaint Wikis and have a successful outcome in your endeavors, then Wetpaint says you will have to use IE or FF for compatibility. Very simple statement. Other browsers may have problems in some of Wetpaint wiki functionality.. Not all people keep their software updated to the latest releases. I for one do not. I normally wait until the bugs are reported and fixed before I choose to click "Get Updates" Hope this gives you and others a better understanding behind the actions of Wetpaint and the information about Operating Systems listed here on Wetpaint Central. "Don't presume all users are limited to IE and FF. The web doesn't work that way. I have several friends who use Safari, Chrome, Opera, Avant, Flock, Seamonkey, Konqueror, Shiira, or something more bizaare."For all your friends using specially Chrome, Avant, Flock, Seamonkey, Konqueror, Shiira, or something even more bizarre, I ask why are they *not* using Firefox instead, for example. I ask if there is really so much they can and will do with all those bizarre browsers that they actually can't and won't do with Firefox just the same or even better. If some people choose to use little known and unsupported browsers because it's their very own personal taste, they really shouldn't complain and live with their choices. 1 out of 1 found this valuable.
