Restricting Vizu polls to logged-in members
Mar 29 2011, 8:22 PM EDT
How can I enable only those registered users/members of my site to use the Vizu polls? I don't want anyone who is not logged-in to be able to submit poll responses. Also, is there a way to prevent someone from reposnding to a poll more than once?
Do you find this valuable?

I think when there were site glitches some members for unknown reasons were able to vote more than once. Do you find this valuable? |

There are two issues here. One configuration of Vizu Polls (a third party widget) on who may vote with the polls. The default is one per ip address. Secondly how to prevent Wetpaint non-members from voting. Here are possible solutions:1. Make sure your poll is setup to only allow one vote per person. This will have to be done at Vizu. 2. Since Vizu is a widget from another company, the site permission levels of Wetpaint do not apply to the widget. Anyone seeing the widget can vote. To make the poll restricted to only registered members, would mean not having it viewed by the general public. Here is a way to accomplish the restriction Create another wiki to hold your polls. Then capture the url address of that wiki and supply the address in a message to all registered users asking them to vote. This will prevent non members from voting. You can display the poll results on your main wiki for all to see. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Thanks alot for your suggestion solution. But, having the poll widget accessible only through a message to all members is cumbersome, and many would not bother to jump through that hoop (as opposed to a simpler way with more immediate access). SO... Is it possible to have a page (not a message) OR navigation menu item that is only displayed to logged-in members? (ie, that could not be viewed by anonymous visitors) OR, is it possible to have a pop-up window that is displayed only after a member logs in? Do you find this valuable? |

Wetpaint provides permissions for editing pages only. Aside from Private sites, all pages are viewable without restrictions. Plus the Vizu widget is not part of the permissions scheme of Wetpaint meaning "if one sees the poll one can vote in the poll".Do you find this valuable? |

SO...I can provide the solution but it is too difficult to explain in a thread. A couple of ways can be provided. 1. A password protected page that holds the polls. But that would require the member to know the password. Maybe too much of a jump for your members. 2. Hidden information on a page via the use of a Gnome Table. But that would require the member with permissions to edit the page to see the hidden information. Again how high do you want your members to jump to take a poll. 3. Plus a couple of more possibilities exist. As stated before, Wetpaint does not provide for this specialized restrictions to pages. Do you find this valuable? |

This is an example on how to password protect an element, a page, even a whole wiki. Copy and paste the link below in your browsers address bar to see naked chickshttp://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/dQhIVyxWFMu0L23YS6FLWA%3D%3D682 The password is SPLATS2-RULEZ Do you find this valuable? |
