Firefox 4 and Wetpaint

Hi, all...I am a huge fan of Wetpaint and use it all of the time. I'm considering upgrading to the newest version of Firefox (FF4), but won't do it if it doesn't work well with Wetpaint. Have any of you tried FF4 with Wetpaint yet? Does it work well with Wetpaint Wikis? Any problems? Thanks... FFT (I'm making a similar thread for IE9, which I am also considering upgrading to: http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/thread/4530032/Internet+Explorer+9+and+Wetpaint ) 1 out of 1 found this valuable. I have been using Firefox 4 since it was an early beta and it has worked very well since Beta 8 was released. Still, Wetpaint wants to test it out on their own before they officially support it.As with IE9, it loads pages faster but it still acts like IE8. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I've upgraded to Firefox 4 and wetpaint works fine. Though my old ad blocker add-on didn't work so I had to get Ad Block Plus and it works with blocking the ads on wetpaint with Firefox 4.

Firefox 4. uses the Gecko 2 engine along with a new Javascript engine. So some of the add-ons will have to be reinstalled to take advantage of the new release. The add-on manager will tell you which of the add-ons are not compatible. Also, since Firefox adheres to W3C.org standards, some older html may not render properly. For example, the Widget Tool window is out of whack. Some of the dialog box borders of Wetpaint are not as they used to be. e.g. The save/cancel from Easy Edit mode. Neither of these issues cause any problems but they are not rendered as Wetpaint designed them to be. There are some html codes that I use that are not compatible with FF 4. But this is a personal thing. Wetpaint has not tested or confirmed the compatibility of either FF 4 or IE 9 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Thank you all, that was very helpful. FF is my primary browser for Wetpaint (I use Chrome a lot for other stuff).CryingDove, if I'm understanding you correctly, it sounds like there are a couple of cosmetic issues, but for anyone not doing any html ninjitsu, the functionality of FF4 should be fine. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. "Thank you all, that was very helpful. FF is my primary browser for Wetpaint (I use Chrome a lot for other stuff).I am on FF 4.0 now writing this text. It does not seem to have any issues with Wetpaint with the exception of as you say cosmetic issues. In the beginning when Netscape and IE had problems of rendering pages differently, one had to build two different pages for each of the browsers to display their pages correctly. Then came cross-browser routines which simplified matters. We should in this age of the internet be beyond such matters. As a wiki designer, I should be concerned about how my visitors are going to view my wiki. So, I tested my pages in IE and FF and made as much adjustment to my pages for them to view properly in both. One browser worked fine with certain elements and the other didn't. And each browser had its own problems rendering simple pages. It got to a point I was spending more time trying to get the pages to look correct in each of the browsers, than I did creating the content for the page. It has remained that way since the upgrades from FF 2.0 and IE 6, (which had the least amount of variations) Today, forget about it. I have settled in on one browser. I tell others to use either one and create their wiki pages according to the browser they choose. Wetpaint works fine with both browsers for simple text, very little image content and no complex tables. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

FF 4.0 does not render javascript that contains a "Document.write(" statement in the code. Many widgets containing this code will not work with FF 4. FF 3.6 renders the widget properly. (This is primarily for those that know how to put script code onto a Wetpaint page. Otherwise, FF will render flash code widgets fine. For me, this problem is very inconvenient.) I have also experienced FF crashing when a lot of content is involved, such as a page with a lot of photos. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Another anomaly with FF 4 and Wetpaint is If the internet connection is fast, along with the improvement in the loading of pages by FF, an irritation can occur. Modules, Widgets, or any other elements that are externally linked to your page, at times will display the message "Server not Found". The correction action is to refresh the page. I am not reporting an error condition, but merely pointing out things we have to get used to with any new release. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Right Click Menus. Some add-ons to FireFox 4.0 will have their own Right Click menus. They seem to override the normal browser right click menu options. such as when used for copy and pasting. A second right click is needed to get to FF built in menu options. Again a "pain in the wahtush", but not a Wetpaint Problem, but something users may need to get used to, especially if using add-ons for Firefox. note:wahtush (pronounced What without the T, and Toosh.) A personally created noun to describe the posterior area of the human anatomy. Do you find this valuable? |

"heck, ive been using it forever. it works as i know of. never had any problems. using firefox 4 right now."That is great that you do not have problems. You may have been on the Beta version for a while but the official release of version 4 occurred on March 24, 2011 Your usage of FF may not be the same as others. Hopefully FF will iron out some of the issues that exist. Right now, using the rudimentary features of Wetpaint with FF 4, does not seem to create an issue for many. And the issues seem to be only cosmetic for some. I work with multiple tabs open. Sometimes there is a need to save and quit when closing down multiple tabs. Firefox 3.6 had no problems with this and I enjoyed that feature. That no longer exist in version 4.0. All and all, Wetpaint and FF 4, seem to be compatible from a user's point of view. We will have to wait until Wetpaint tests it and approves it to be a supported browser. Do you find this valuable? |

Firefox is planning on releasing an update for version 4 soon, but they are already planning on releasing version 5 in June so things might get complicated.I'm already using the latest nightly release and all that changed was it got about 10% faster. People should be able to have both 3.6 and 4 installed at the same time by changing the name of the folder. Do you find this valuable? |

Thanks for the info... Since I heard... some time ago FF version 4 could give problems I disabled the automatic updates... I will stick with FF 3.6 for now... And... good idea CaptainSpaz... I might install it in a different folder... to try it out... * 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Hi, all...I'm currently using FF#4 and I can safely state, I've had zero problems. It took me a bit to get re acquainted with the new layout and features but now that this has been dealt with, its full steam ahead! So, take the upgrade. You won't be disappointed. I can now safely work with my HTML codes and I'm able to view them correctly. No more activating my explorer, just to see if I goofed up. I don't use Internet Explorer unless necessary. They could have sent us a message, but no one did. This is a great way to start off my morning, when I have to go to school in less than an hour. What is it i'm doing you ask? Eating breakfast, having to keep yelling to keep my brother awake, and having to delete this poren spam replikes, and reportr both IPs to Jeremy for banning, as well as looking to see if they are both coming from the same place, which they are, ALL at once. Thank you for making me busy this morning, Telecommunication Services of Trinidad and Tobago. -.- Next time, it wouldn't hurt to send us Mods a message when you see spam like this. -Clay Do you find this valuable? |
