Ads
Mar 24 2011, 12:46 PM EDT
I have seen some partially disgusting advertisements on my site, and I have young members on that site, and they complain about some of these. Mostly, they are the ones that say "96% people can't get this right!" and there is only two answers to choose from. First off, it's highly unlikely the 96% of people can click the same wrong answer. Either way, can someone with some power get Wetpaint to change these ads to something less regurgitating? Do you find this valuable? |

Well, if you really want the ads off of your site, you'll have to pay to get them off. However, I agree that Wetpaint is allowing way too many of these actually rather gross ads on Wikis. I even saw an ad for sex products once. *Gag* Wetpaint should really try and see if there is any possible way to get friendly ads. Do you find this valuable? |

"Well, if you really want the ads off of your site, you'll have to pay to get them off.Or age appropriate ads. I refuse to give wetpaint any money seeing how they won't make the site any better. Where's a delete all button on your inbox? Where's Google Chrome on EasyEdit? No, wetpaint. I use Firefox with adblocker and I reccomend it with all my members. Wetpaint, you are not very nice to your wikis. Do you find this valuable? |

Hello Hughh,The ads on Wetpaint are deemed appropriate for people aged 13 and up. The minimum age to be signed up to Wetpaint with is 13, due to COPPA laws. If you see an advert which you believe is inappropriate for people under 18 (e.g. A sex advertisement), then you need to report it to info@wetpaint.com. A tip; The ads you see are based on the category of your site. What is the category you have set it to? Do you find this valuable? |

It also has to do with the content on your wiki, I might add. You might want to make sure that there is no inappropriate threads, photos, videos, pages, ect.If that's not the case, then it probably has to do with the category. You can change the category by going to Settings>Name and Logo, and scroll to the very bottom. Use each category and find which shows more appropriate ads. The category that has been found to have less inappropriate ads is Auto. Do you find this valuable? |

"Games. "What sort of games are your members playing? Someone has suggested to give you this information. Try this if you use firefox.. Go to your tools/Addons at the top of the page. Click the firefox icon and enter ADBLOCK PLUS Once you install it, you'll get a little STOP sign in the top of your Fire/Fox...this should stop all the adds...maybe. I use Kasper Security which you have to pay for, but it has an add block on it as well. Do you find this valuable? |

"Either way, can someone with some power get Wetpaint to change these ads to something less regurgitating? "__No. Wetpaint is paid for by advertisers, and they can’t really control who walks in carrying cash. __Provided the advertiser isn’t committing a crime (or something else particularly troublesome, like last year’s spate of “Live Anti-Virus” downloadings), there is neither much they can nor really SHOULD do about it; It might be nice to have advertisers more intrinsically linked to the nature of one’s site (for example, Palladium or Interplay advertising at my role playing site), but in the end Wetpaint’s gotta pay their bills- Or shut down. Jeremy can still remove a add if it is really offensive.

Actually, he can't. The ads are controlled by Google AdSense, Jeremy can merely choose their position on the site. He cannot add and remove ads.

No, he got in touch with Google and requested that they removed the malicious advertisements. What you see on the page is just a Javascript code linked to Google. I checked.

"I think that Jeremy can get rid of ads that download malware. If Google has ads like that on their network, then Google will want to remove them. However, it sounds like what is bugging you about the "96% people can't get this right!" ad is simply that it's ugly and stupid. I won't argue with you on that; it is. However, once you sign up for an ad network, you don't get to choose which ads you want based on how attractive the ads are. Google would never allow that because advertisers wouldn't want the hassle, and Google would lose money. Even if they did, Wetpaint could never afford the human resources to be an intermediary between it's users and Google. Do you find this valuable? |

Here is a page that perhaps will give some insight on how Wetpaint uses Google Ads on your wiki pages.http://splats2.wetpaint.com/page/Ad+This+To+Your+Page Do you find this valuable? |
