Delete a Site
Mar 14 2011, 9:30 PM EDT
I have finally found out an extremely useful way to "delete" a site! And it totally works! Just follow these steps!*NOTE* This only works correctly if you are the Creator. If the Creator has cancelled their membership already, or if they came back from cancelling their membership, but have returned as an admin, that works as well, but ONLY if you are an admin. 1 - Ban EVERY member the site! 2 - Make the site PRIVATE! 3 - Cancel your membership. BINGO! Now, nobody (except for the Wetpaint Team, of course) can acess your site! Not even you! Now, here is a step-by-step way to make your site "look good" while it is dead. 1 - Remove every members' profile image, and delete all content off of their profile. 2 - Remove the site banner (if it has one) 3 - Rename your site to "Sorry!" 4 - Make the site description "Sorry, but this site no longer exists!" 5 - Delete every page, remove all content off of the homepage, and change the homepage's name to "Home". 6 - Change ever members' slogan to "..." 7 - Change your site's "style" to the solid black style known as "Islander". There you have it! Hope it helps! Do you find this valuable? |

July 13, 2009 The "delete your wiki yourself" words went down in printhttp://splats.wetpaint.com/page/How+To+Delete+Your+Site+Yourself/history September 2, 2009 The page was moved from Splats to Splats2. http://splats2.wetpaint.com/page/Delete+Your+Site+Yourself I am glad you are now just discovering it. And it has been totally working all that time. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

__If you don’t want to be a **** about it, take it private first, then announce in a thread and PM to “All Members” that you will be closing the site, then start banning people. Give your members at least 06 months to “Transition.”__I got burned on a site that shutdown without notice. Did exactly whay tou said (except he never took it private, really weird that). __AFTER the mass ban, you could mash and trash the pages so they can’t be recovered even by the owner. Just a thought. There is no need to do anything with profiles, or pages or styles. It would be a total waste of time and effort. These things will not be seen after the process is complete. Here are the steps with explanations. If you ARE CERTAIN you do not want your site anymore and want it deleted, here is a method to use. 1. If there are members on your site, contact them and let them know your site is going be shut down. 2. After contacting members about shutdown, Ban them. This way they cannot come back onto the site. They will know the reason why they are banned because you told them your were shutting the site down. 3. Once all members are banned. Make your site a private site, if it is not one already, via settings and permissions. 4. Then as a final step, Go to your profile and cancel your membership and log out. The wiki, styles, pages, profiles or anything else on the wiki will NEVER be accessed again. Signed by the Creator of the process of "Deleting One's Wiki By Oneself", cryingdove 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

(Does it count as Necromancy if I reply after simply a week after no replies? If it does, then I am so sorry. I had no idea. XD)Thanks for describing it in detail, CD. :) And sorry about posting it. I just figured it out without help, so I didn't exactly know that someone had already shared it with others. If you go to my officially dead site, http://ookaminokokoro.wetpaint.com (I hope this doesn't count as advertising |D), you'll notice that it's totally private, and then following the link to the "better" site will lead you to a site that is also dead, but leads to an alive site. That's what I always do. I always make sure people know that there are sites that are alive that were made by the same person. Do you find this valuable? |

I like the idea of changing the site message to inform any visitor the site has been deleted. Great idea.

__¿What do you do for a site that has tens of thousands of “members” (far more than any one person could ever hope to ban by themselves, except by doing it for 8 hours a day for weeks on end)?

"__¿What do you do for a site that has tens of thousands of “members” (far more than any one person could ever hope to ban by themselves, except by doing it for 8 hours a day for weeks on end)?"If that scenario ever appears, then the creator can get with the "Tens of Thousands" of members by sending a message to all members, requesting they cancel their memberships. Mind you, not all will do it. But it will sure lighten the load on that lone person doing the banning. I say lone person because the moderators and admins are not going to help the creator in this situation either. Note from personal experience, To ban 1000 members by a lone person doing the banning, takes approximately 4 hours . 10000 will take 10 four hour time slots. Do you find this valuable? |

You could get other mods to help you ban the members...?
