Private site, so that only writers & mods can edit it?
Mar 6 2011, 1:10 PM EST
Hello!Every time I make a site private, it says that everyone who will join my site will be able to edit it. But I would like it so that only writers & moderators can edit it; I also saw it on other peoples' websites. How can I do that? Thanks a lot for any help! Do you find this valuable? |

Only writers, moderators, and admins can edit your site as long as you set your 'Who should be able to edit this website?' in the settings to "Only people I Promote to Writer".

Nope;it changes immediatly when I click "Who can view this site?" - "Members only: Only people who have previously joined your site can view it." Then everyone who joins my site will be able to edit it. Is really no one able to help me? Plz? ._. Do you find this valuable? |

You cannot have a private site and writers only site at the same time.If you choose Private site, (as you have been doing), keep it that way. Then lock all the pages so that only moderators and up can edit pages. Others cannot and no one else except members of your wiki will be able to view the site. This I think is what your are looking for. Do you find this valuable? |

I have a double account on a private site that I admin... The account is just registered user... and has to apply for Writer status to be able to edit pages... Settings > Permissions > Members Only So Private site and Writers only at the same time seems to be possible. * Do you find this valuable? |

Above post #4 was by me. When you change your settings to Members Only it says: "Only people who have previously joined your site can edit it." But trying this out will make clear that Registered Users are NOT able to edit... and see the Apply to be a Writer button on pages. * Do you find this valuable? |

"When the site is made private. current registered users will need their role adjusted to writer or moderator in order to edit content. It is recommended that you review and adjust the permissions of all your members after making this change. I learn something new everyday. Thanks Anonymous and Jivanda. Do you find this valuable? |

There is really no trick... Just make your site private and you will see that any Registered User has to Apply to be a Writer... I just did that yesterday with my double account... to show some members that I train for Moderator status... how a Writer Request looks like... where you can find it... and how it looks in your private mail box. (So and so wants to contribute to your site... blah blah...) * Do you find this valuable? |
