December 01, 2005, "Wetpaint" was the name Wikisphere decided to take as it's new official title. Wikisphere was a wiki host that did solely custom work.In March of 2006, Wetpaint decided to test market the idea of free wiki hosting. In June, 2006, Wetpaint became a free wiki host to all. Some of the first sites to take use of Wetpaint are still here today. Xbox360 and EMGN Gaming. wikiFido was the original wiki on the Wetpaint network. That was Wetpaint's original testing wiki..some other orignal wikis are wikiDemocrat, wikiGOP, and wikiSandbox. As word got around about Wetpaint, there became a need to have a help site. So in Sep 2006 Heidianna created "The Moderator Lounge", but later adopted the name "Wetpaint Central" when threads about problems, new features, and other things started popping up. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Thats a good history cd..and now..they have gone backwards with their ideas, that seem really good to me. I love the set up much as it is, if only they would keep it maintained. It is easy to use and not all bunched up or restrictive like a lot of sites. So much more could be added that would make their wikis so much better than other sites. Its a shame they have let their ideas and those of other members go.1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"That's cool. Is EMGN is still active right now? Or Xbox360?"Nope. We're planning to revive EMGN though, and maybe someday the Xbox360 wiki being revived would be nice. It has a lot of great stuff on it. Do you find this valuable? |

There have been a couple of requests in the past wanting to know what was the first Wetpaint Wiki. That is a difficult question to answer. This is because Wetpaint has a couple of different histories. 1. Wetpaint was originally named Wikisphere (2005) and changed its name to Wetpaint in November 30, 2005. (they did custom work) 2. Then Wetpaint released about 100 demo wikis between Jan 2006 and May 2006. 3. Wetpaint opened up the wiki platform to everyone to create their own in June of 2006 Between the beginning in 2005 til March of 2006 Wetpaint launched over 100 test wikis. Here are some of them. -- http://www.wikipregnancy.com feb 8 2006 by wetpaint -- http://www.wikifido.com feb 8 2006 by wetpaint -- http://www.wikixbox360.com feb 8 2006 by wetpaint -- http://www.wikicancer.org feb 8 2006 by wetpaint -- http://www.wikibirdflu.org feb 8 2006 by wetpaint -- http://www.wikidemocrats.com feb 8 2006 by wetpaint -- http://www.wikigop.com feb 8 2006 by wetpaint -- http://secretsbehindthedavincicode.wetpaint.com/ may 4 2006 by Code Fan In June 2006, Wetpaint opens up the wiki platform to everyone. Some of the earliest members started creating their own wikis. -- http://edtech.wetpaint.com july 16 2006 by jkinslow -- http://www.wikifeedback.com ( renamed Moderatorslounge and then WetpaintCentral was created by heidiana -- http://gamingnews.wetpaint.com sep 19 2006 by madusha -- http://jericho.wetpaint.com nov 2006 by wetpaint -- http://alt-c-2006.wetpaint.com Aug 30 2006 by lisbk -- http://ihsclassof96.wetpaint.com Jun 5 2006 by M.Howell If you are aware of any wikis in this early time frame, please post a thread noting the wiki. This will become a great archive for those that aren't familiar with Wetpaint and its history. Do you find this valuable? |
