Which Browser is TRULY the best for Wetpaint?
Dec 31 2010, 4:29 PM EST
I know everyone says Firefox is best used for Wetpaint, but whenever I use it, any content that is in the center will move to the left.Internet Explorer works very good, but is slower and has a few more SMALL bugs. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

There is no good browser for Wetpaint. Each of the two major browsers - Firefox and Internet Explorer do not render Wetpaint's html code properly. IE does not adhere to the W3C standards and Firefox does. Firefox is the best, once you learn the idiosyncrasies of using it with WP. Here is a page where you can see what type of problems occur with each of the browsers and how to manage the problems. http://splats2.wetpaint.com/page/Problems Do you find this valuable? |

____Firefox is better for tables (a lesson that had to be drilled into my thick skull with dynamite). Firefox, however, does not like any kind of fancy fonts (if it’s not on your keyboard, it won’t show up, and even if it is, sometimes it won’t).

Hmm... If you ask me, Firefox is worse for tables. It doesn't do centered tables very well. I prefer using IE over Firefox, even though my defualt browser is Google Chrome.

Once a person learns to get around the stupidy of Wetpaint's wysiwyg editor and the creation of the html, you will find that Firefox is the better of the three simply because it adheres to industry standards. Google is not supported and IE has a tendency to get real confused when it sees more than one table or a table within a table. Most of the problems with saving pages or having the format of the page get completely lost is due to using Internet Explorer. My pages can have up to 4 or 5 tables deep into one table alone. As I said, once the stupidity workarounds are learned, it becomes easy to create a page with many tables. But with any program, you will have some that like it and some that don't. The bottom line is once you learn a particular program, stay with it. Learn its capabilities and its short-comings. And sooner or later, you will become an expert in that program. I would like to make it clear that it isn't the browsers that are the problem. It is Wetpaint and the way it creates the html. If you are using Firefox...simply go to the Tool Bar and select Tools. Then select Error Console. Take a look at the many errors that occur on any page you want to look at. Programming at its best. Do you find this valuable? |

Maybe someone should make a browser ideal for use with Wetpaint. I'm sure there's plenty of capable people on this site. Chrisco97 is one of them - he's working on a browser called 'Voyage'.

"Maybe someone should make a browser ideal for use with Wetpaint. I'm sure there's plenty of capable people on this site. Chrisco97 is one of them - he's working on a browser called 'Voyage'."One must understand the problem with browsers and making them render the html code properly. A long time ago, the programmers had to create separate code depending upon what browser was viewing the site. One code for your wiki to be viewed with IE. Another set of code to be used with Firefox, and another set for any other browser. At that time is was just IE and Netscape. When a website was created it first had to check what browser the viewer was using and direct them to the appropriate code so the html was rendered properly. Wetpaint does not do that. It tries to make a single set of code to work with the two supported browsers. As you can see, each browser has their own problems. Problems within different releases of a browser is an area too. IE 8 doesn't work well with Wetpaint. Wetpaint treats IE 8 as if it were IE 7. And I have no idea what they do with IE 9. Each of the browsers, Flock, Safari, IE, Firefox, Enigma, Chrome, and the many others render the Wiki HTML code differently. An organization W3C is trying to make the way browsers render HTML standardized. So far it hasn't happened. No matter what type of new browser is placed on the market, if it doesn't adhere to a standard, then problems will occur. Remember, WP has to work with not just one browser but several and across different operating systems. It is not an easy task to do nor is the problems seen with different browsers new.
