Name . Change
Dec 26 2010, 2:49 PM EST
I think you should really be able to change your username. I made this username a long time ago, and hate it, but if I were to make a whole new account, I would have to re-join all of my sites and lose my contributions. For me, it seems like a lose-lose situation. Bad username, or a lot of unnecessary work.

This has been suggested many times before. I hope while you were on the Make A Suggestion page you took the poll. That suggestion is on the poll. I do not think this will ever come forth as a new feature. It has been around for a long time. But we can always keep our fingers crossed. Do you find this valuable? |

Being able to change your usename....wouldn't that be more of a problem with banning people, or members who make inappropriate remarks deliberately, and then change their name to avoid detection?

This requested feature would not spring up those problems. When you change your username, all of the contributions attached to that username would remain in tact. In addition, once the username was changed, all the contributions attached to the previous account would move and attach to the new username. For example, my current username is "walrusworldstudios". If I changed my username to "Dr.Odd", all my previous contributions would revert to my new username. Any post made by walrusworldstudios would be made by Dr.Odd. That would be an easy solution to the problem you mentioned. However. chances are, this feature will not be added. -Matt Do you find this valuable? |

I would agree with the addition of this feature, but I think it would be important that after a name change, the previous name(s) used would still be visible in the user's profile page. You could change your name, but you would still have to have all your previous usernames listed on your profile page. Kind of a "previously known as..."I think this would be important for all the other users to keep track of who that user is. I wouldn't want a well known member of any of my sites to suddenly change his or her name without previous notice and leave all the rest of us totally lost as to who that person actually was, even if eventually just for a while. Yeah. Either that or send out a message to Mods & Up that the change has been made, so they may tell the site members about the change. My fingers are crossed on BOTH hands for this feature. Heck, I'm even crossing my toes! XDD Do you find this valuable? |

"Being able to change your usename....wouldn't that be more of a problem with banning people, or members who make inappropriate remarks deliberately, and then change their name to avoid detection?"____No. The offensive comments would still be attached to the username, no matter how amny times you change it. Just for sh*ts and giggles, I went over the list.“Online Now” Indicator: Not really important. If they’re not on now, they will be latter. That’s only really useful for a chat feed, which will tell you who’s logged into the feed anyways. Changeable Usernames: Might be nice. But not really important. Anchor Links: This is something I really would like, especially for fairly complex pages; The ability to skip down to exactly the part of the page you want would allow more effective research. (I know it’s not critical for many sites.) Discussion Forum Enhancements: ¡Oh HELL yes! To be able to bold, italicize, etc discussions posts would be incredibly helpful (especially if the “Save Thread As Page” feature is brought back). Configurable Time Zones: It would allow you to know what time a post/page edit is made, but ¿is it really that critical? No. Customizable Backgrounds: It’s nice, it makes a site pretty. Pretty isn’t critical. Page Level Permissions: Some sites actually create private sites just for the staff. (Of course, if you feel the need for staff to hide what they’re doing, then you probably have a problem.) Do you find this valuable? |
