Safari -- the only browser on iPad
Dec 5 2010, 4:01 PM EST
.Opera works fine, AFAIK, also Camino (sort of special Firefox for Macs). I started my first wetpaint wiki July 4 2008 (http://askgeneva.wetpaint.com). I am very fond of wetpaint, but I have to be practical. I travel a lot and want to use an iPad. Safari is the only browser on iPad. I do not think I am unique. iPad is very popular, even with non-Apple people. It has sold over 4 million, and it's not even Xmas, yet. There are all those people out there who have them, and can't edit wetpaint. Isn't there something you can do about it? I am reluctantly looking for another wiki farm, 60% because of the Safari issue, and 40% because the ads on wetpaint have just become too pervasive, too intrusive, and too aggressive, and the cost of getting rid of them is too expensive. How about an option of paying less and just getting rid of some of the worst ones? . Do you find this valuable? |

".Wetpaint has been trying very hard to make compatibility with Safari, but unfortunately Apple do not seem to cooperate. Here is an extract from the page: Currently, Wetpaint is not able to fully support the Safari browser. When using Safari on Wetpaint, some features will work and others will not. Wetpaint has been working diligently to find solutions for the features that are not currently supported by Safari. We have filed bugs and sent letters to the good people at Apple and the Safari team, but unfortunately we have not received the support we need from them as of yet. We are constantly improving Wetpaint, and we will continue to reevaluate and work towards offering full browser support for Safari users. Do you find this valuable? |

Thank you. And I must say, the ads are not so bad, now. They're OK again. I saw the Safari page, but I was hoping for progress since then, but Apple is Apple. I hope there is a possibility of getting them to listen because of the iPad -- they are concerned about that. I've put a comment on their iPad suggestions place. If they get a lot there, they might listen. . PS - Opera doesn't work "fine" - just better than Safari, but still not like FF. . Do you find this valuable? |

Yes, Opera can use a fair amount of the features but not all.As for the Post on the Ipad suggestions place, could you share the link with me? Maybe we can get some Wetpaint users in favour of Safari to post on there, too. Do you find this valuable? |

.The URL is http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html You can choose several feedback types: enhancement request, software/hardware compatability, conectivity/interoperability, etc. I put my suggestion on 'enhancement', but I think I'll put it on those others, too. They are probably all read by different people. I asked for them to either make Safari work with WetPaint, or allow Firefox to be used. Are there other sites that have this problem with Safari? Maybe they would join in the lobbying. . Do you find this valuable? |

".As far as I know, there isn't any other sites that have a problem. But I haven't looked very hard, so it's unknown to me. I've submitted a contact form, and I put the subject as 'Software/Hardware Compatibility'. I believe this fits in perfectly. Do you find this valuable? |

Unfortunately, there is very little Wetpaint can do to build compatibility with Safari, since Safari does not support WYSIWYG editing on any web platform, including Wetpaint.
