Return receipts for PMs

I don't know if other sites experience the high volume of staff-to-staff PM's that the ZSDW does, but I have run into a problem that has always kind of irked me but I didn't really think of a solution until now.

Our admin/mod inboxes stay pretty full more often than not, and we don't always have the time to reply to every single message sent to "All Mods". Because of this, we have no way of making sure that other staff members have received or seen the messages we are sending to them.

My suggestion is to add a return receipt option to all outgoing PMs. This way, if people don't want to take the time to respond, you can give them the option of requesting a return receipt. When I send out announcements, I could get a PM back from each user that is simply a computer generated response telling me that the recipient saw the message.

Almost every public email provider offers this service, so I doubt it would be too much hassle to have it coded in. Comments? Questions?

Sounds good.

I imagine that everyone would utilise this feature a lot and it would increase the Wetpaint's servers load quite a bit though. That aside I think it would be great if it could be implemented without increasing the load too much :)

With all that new Wal-Mart money, I would assume some hardware upgrades would be made.

____It’s self-spamming; Send out all msgs with Return Receipt Requests, and you’re literally spamming yourself. Do you find this valuable?

Not really. I consider the messages I send to fellow staff to be important enough that I can assure they at least read it.

No one uses automatic return receipts, it is always optional.

Speaking of self spamming, it annoys me that every time I send out an "all mods" message that it sends one to me as well.

____Wetpaint’s system automatically checks every box. I don’t want to deal with unchecking the box (though it does mean I’ve got well over 2,ØØØ threads that I’m now tracking).
____As to sending messages to yourself, it gives you an opportunity to see how you look to others; I routinely PM myself with reminds, preparatory articles, etc.

I think I would be willing to uncheck a box to be able to get a return receipt. I already unclick a box every 5 minutes.

Gives you an opportunity to see how you look to others? You're kidding, right? Messaging yourself is one thing, I do it from time to time, but you actually find value in all mods messages being sent back to you?

You are either incredibly weird or saying it for the sake if disagreement. I suspect a little of both.

I like this option. Sometimes you don't get a reply, but would like to know that someone read it. Do you find this valuable?
