Does Wetpaint feel Dry?
Nov 2 2010, 1:40 PM EDT | Post edited: Nov 2 2010, 1:40 PM EDT
Wetpaint was at one time my utmost favorite website. It exceeded all of my expectations, which back then, other websites failed to do.

However, Wetpaint has been changing. At first, I enjoyed the new experiences, and considered the constant updates to be excellent ideas and concepts. But, as time progressed, I started to notice that something seemed "off".

Recently, Wetpaint has been providing a terrible service! Glitches, server issues, spam, bugs and even a few viruses. This is not the Wetpaint I used to love.

I just want to know: where did my beloved Wetpaint experience go? What has happened to my all-time favorite website?

That is all.

I don't want for this to be mistaken as some sort of 'rant' or 'complaint'.
I have been here since the start, and have no intentions of leaving.

I just kind of miss the old Wetpaint experience.

These issues have been covered here several times.
As you may know, Wetpaint cut back on many (or several) employees about an year ago, so they have less manpower now to handle, update and maintain the wikis. Several of the bigger wikis about TV shows used to be regularly updated by Wetpaint personnel who is not here anymore.

On another hand, as you may also know, Wetpaint changed business direction radically about two months ago in such a way that the wikis are no longer their main focus, but rather an old and somewhat secondary branch now, even though they say they will still be maintaining the wikis indefinitely. A single visit to Wetpaint.com (which you may have done already) is abundantly clear on what Wetpaint's purpose is these days. The only reference to the wikis is a small link to Wetpaint Central at the bottom of the page.

This being said, it's true that neither of these factors is irrefutably proven to be the cause for all the problems, bugs and glitches we've had recently, but many of us have good reasons to suspect it, even though Wetpaint won't come out and say it.

Do the math and think what you will.

In an article dated December 2009, Wetpaint's CEO described the direction that WP would be heading in 2010. As Losa78, has pointed out, there is so much a company can do with a downsized workforce along with an increase in responsibilities, such as the myriad of TV Obsessed wikis, (built by WP) created. Below is a link to the article. Just click on it.

Wetpaint still is one of my favorite sites, and the best web host. They need these TV wikis to stay afloat, but I would atleast like a "Create Your own Wiki" button on the home page, and a proper search tool to search through ALL Wetapaint wikis. I believe that Wetpaint is losing a LOT of potential customers and ad revenue without the 2 things I have suggested.

I had no idea that the current changes and staff cuts were already being talked about online since almost an year ago, although it makes sense. Thank you for posting the article, CryingDove. Good read and good to know.

Indeed a slumping online advertising business... All it takes is the right browser and the correct add-block add-on to be able to surf everywhere without seeing any adds at all. I don't ever see one single add on any Wetpaint wiki at all.
