A question

On a site I administrate, we suspect a person of breaking the rules by having multiple simultaneous accounts to increase the importance of the site and prompt the admins to update the site more. Of course, we on the site prefer hard evidence to plain guesswork, so we are attempting to decipher the IPs of the various suspect accounts to find out whether they are registered to one user.. Is there a way of finding out the IP addresses of non-anonymous accounts without hard work? I thought that it would be best to ask here where the experts are instead of going on a wild goose chase trying to find out the truth. Any answers for me? ~Kinrift Do you find this valuable? |

my Dad is a programmer for disney, can do anything... my guess is it is something in the HTML code for the user.. that should have an IP address(if i remember correctly)

so what i mean is if you can get to the code for each account, it might have an IP listed somewhere in there.......

"On a site I administrate, we suspect a person of breaking the rules by having multiple simultaneous accounts to increase the importance of the site and prompt the admins to update the site more. No, there is no way to find the IPs of other users that are NOT posting as Anonymous. Only Wetpaint can do that, and they will not give out people's IPs, but can tell you wether they are the same or not. (The user could have siblings, just a little fyi. In that case, their IPs would be the same.) Dcollins52: If you could post everything in one post in the future, that would be nice. :) Do you find this valuable? |

"So, if I want to know if multiple accounts are from the same IP or not, how should I proceed? Where and how should I ask, inquire or find out?"HI Losa. Sometimes if you PM Jeremy asking if two users share the same IP, he'll tell you if they do or not. He won't go as far to tell you what the ip is obviously, but he can tell you if the two account ips match. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Our good ol' Jeremy must really have a huge handful of work and PM's to answer to around here! Almost everything is Jeremy's job around here, it seems. Jeremy does this, Jeremy does that... LOL... I hope the guy has good assistants! I'm guessing this is why you say he will answer us "sometimes", right? Do you find this valuable? |

"Thanks for the tip, Tosan. No Problem, anytime haha :). Yea, he hasn't even answered my PMs yet. He's been extremely busy lately, ever since the updates. And yea, because how busy he is, it may take awhile before he answers you. I know how he feels though, because I do the same. Do you find this valuable? |

"sitemeter works"Is that the widget type thing that pops up at the very bottom of your website? If so it isn't always precise. You gotta watch out for that. Do you find this valuable? |

"Thanks for the tip, Tosan. There used to be another great Wetpaint employee who helped Jeremy, but sadly he got laid off. :/ I miss him. I doubt anyone remembers our good old friend Jason_Wetpaint? Me, Phillip, and Shadow are prob the only ones who remember him from long ago, back in 2008-2009 before the lay-offs. (Non-Wetpaint staff members that is. I'm sure Jeremy remembers him.) :( Ever since, Jeremy has had to work as the only Admin of Wetpaint Central and gets a LOT of messages a day. I would say about 20+ every day, and his inbox is prob filled over the weekend and by the time he gets back by Monday, he will have about 50+ or so. Do you find this valuable? |

"And yea, because how busy he is, it may take awhile before he answers you. LOL I mod three sites and I'm an administrator on another, all about TV shows, but they're not too much trouble. One of them used to be (even before I was promoted to mod there), but now the show it's about has been cancelled for over an year now, so it's a lot more peaceful these days. There's still plenty of activity there for a cancelled tv show site, though. I see you're around here a lot as well because you like to help other members. I do too, as my capacities allow me, that is. Glad you added me as a friend. Oh, and sorry everybody for going slightly OT with this post. This central seems to be a little dead today. But couldn't Jeremy easily promote one of you long time trusted mods of his to administrator status as well and share the work with him? I know you already do a lot of work here as mods, but being an administrator allows a much deeper level of intervention. I guess he would probably need authorization from Wetpaint's higher ups and/or he could get a cut in pay that way, though... LOL Do you find this valuable? |

Thanks for the all help. I shall try sitemeter for size, but I don't think I'll bother the higher-ups. They probably have enough on their plate as it is.Of course, I have other tactics to find out whether he controls all those users. I guess that I'll have to use those. Do you find this valuable? |
