Wetpaint.com changes
Sep 6 2010, 6:30 PM EDT | Post edited: Sep 6 2010, 6:30 PM EDT
As some of you have noticed, last night Wetpaint launched a new Wetpaint.com homepage. I just wanted to take a second to let you know what's up.

Back in June of 2006, Wetpaint launched with a mission: to give everyone on the Web a voice and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to their community through the use of collaborative, user-friendly technology. Since that time, we have witnessed much of that vision come to fruition, and take exceptional pride in having created a wiki platform that has been used and trusted by millions of people.

We noticed that some of the most vibrant site have been dedicated to television shows. Inspired by fans’ unquenchable thirst for creating, sharing, and discovering more content about favorite TV shows, we set to work to create the most complete online daily destination experience for the TV-obsessed. We are proud to unveil our newly launched Wetpaint Entertainment site at Wetpaint.com.

So what is the new Wetpaint.com all about anyway?

Wetpaint Entertainment is a TV-focused site devoted to bringing fans the freshest and most comprehensive content experience for select television shows on the Web.

With this exciting new addition to our business, you can also count on these things not changing with the wikis by Wetpaint platform:
• Your sites will continue to be fully operational every day, week, and month so you can develop them, share them, and retrieve your data whenever you want to.
• Any premium services that you may pay extra for will continue to operate as promised.
• The Wetpaint team will continue to address problems as they arise and work on features to keep your sites safe from spammers.
• You can continue to visit the wikis by Wetpaint online support site, Wetpaint Central, to get help as a site creator or start your own free wikis by Wetpaint site.

As always, we thank you for being a part of the Wetpaint community!

Can you promise, within years time that the wetpaint wikis will not ever be removed? I plan to use my site possibly in years like 2015. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

No one can guarantee what the future holds - that's why insurance companies exist :)

But I can reiterate that Wetpaint does plan to continue to support the wiki platform indefinitely. We are proud of the wiki platform and want to see it continue to thrive for a long long time.

Alright. I plan to buy an ad free website soon, and I've been trying to grow my community. Its become large and has over 550 members, not too many yet but its as big as a forum!.

I'm just trying to keep it running. I'm happy to hear you'll still support it. I just hope it lasts a long time. :D

Ok, Jeremy, I see what Wetpaint is up to. TV show based sites do seem to be the most popular. As for fashion... I don't know...

So now, instead of focusing on the wikis, seems like Wetpaint is focusing on just posting news and (largely worthless, imho) gossip about TV shows, aimed at young girls mostly...
Wetpaint used to be so much more than that!

So, this being sad, I have a few questions if you all don't mind:

1) Can you honestly say that the wikis "branch" will not be totally abandoned in the long run? There is only a very small link to it on the homepage already...

2) How is it that just posting news and gossip about tv shows and fashion for young girls can be more profitable than the "old" wikis? There are already thousands of other sites and tabloid papers and magazines for what Wetpaint is aiming for now... The wikis were much more unique.

3) How do you guys plan to motivate all the dedicated wiki users after years of making their sites what they are now, when Wetpaint doesn't seem to care about the wikis as it used to be? Even though you say you will keep maintaining the wikis, it's clearly a branch you don't invest in anymore...

4) Will there still be advertising on the wikis?

I was just joking about the insurance thing. You don't have to worry about your site disappearing as Wetpaint plans to keep supporting the wiki platform.

Do you mean the problem of not being able to access the "my sites" list? Yes, we are going to fix that.

I doubted that Wetpaint would get rid of the wiki platform.

I am glad to hear this. Thanks for clearing this up Jeremy. But I do recommend finding a way that wikis that are not related to TV can still be found. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

you could also go onto your profile on here and look under the tab on it that says my sites, and it should be on there, it should be right under the friends list. 2  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

"I can't find the wiki I made! Where is it hiding?"
If you've visited your wiki recently, it will appear in your browsing history. Otherwise, you can wait until Wetpaint restores the My Sites feature, or search for your wiki on Google, appending "site:wetpaint.com" to your searches to ensure that Google only returns results from within Wetpaint.

It's nice that renovations have been made for more modern times, but, there are sites that aren't devoted to such things. Role Plays are made mostly under Wetpaint as well as Wikis. I'm trying to make a few more sites and seemingly can't find a place to create another site. Maybe you guys should have a page that takes people to the Old Wetpaint Home so others that aren't interested in TV Enternainment {Ugh, spelling Dx} can enjoy their Wetpaint experience.
