Crippling bug for friend's account
Aug 5 2010, 3:56 AM EDT | Post edited: Aug 5 2010, 3:56 AM EDT
Hello,

A friend of mine owns an account on Wetpaint. Unfortunatly, she is totally unable to access any of the sites whatsoever. If she tries, an 'operation aborted' message appears, and she has no choice but to shut down her browser. We have tried cleaning out the cookies, turning off the virus protection and deleting files; no change. This problem started about a month or so ago, around the time when the new dating ads appeared. If there is any way at all to solve this issue please tell me.

To fully understand the problem(s) you are having could you please provide more information (a screen shot would be a great help). However here is a start...

I believe that no one else has been experiencing these problems however my advice would be to;
1) Try experimenting with different browsers (even though Chrome and Safari won't fully work with the "Easy Edit" function you should still be able to sign in to Wetpaint with them)
2) If you are still getting the same error then try doing a full computer check of viruses (assuming you are using Winodws)

If the above are still no use then come back to this thread and I'm sure we can figure out a further solution from there.

Thanks,

I cannot get a screenshot as she can't access any wetpaint sites /at all/ this includes Wetpaint Central, sorry. However, the message box is very similar to this:

http://www.abouttricks.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/internet-explorer-cannot-open-the-internet-site-operation-aborted-error-wordpress-blog-website-error-copy.jpg

It then goes to the typical "this page cannot be displayed..." message.

We've tried scanning the computer for viruses but found nothing. I'll try the Chrome and Safari suggestion-her EasyEdit doesn't work anyway so it won't be too great a loss.

Thanks so much for the help.

If your friend is using IE, she could try using FireFox, and vise-versa. If she's using Firefox, she could try IE. Do you find this valuable?

I recommend that your friend upgrade to Internet Explorer 8, as Microsoft suggests. She won't receive that error message in Internet Explorer 8. However, there are a number of alternative solutions presented on that page. She can try any of them which do not require modification of her wiki page's code.

Your friend may also want to try using Mozilla Firefox, a Wetpaint supported browser which runs on both Windows and Mac. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox

The problem may be with an add-on to the browser. Here is a way of determining whether it is an add-on problem..

I. In IE, Click Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced Tab and then uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions"

2. After you uncheck that option, restart your browser and try to cause the error by visiting a Wetpaint site.. If the error goes away, it was an add-on.

3. Now, once you know it is an add-on you can re0enable add-ons and then disable them one by one in Tools -> Manage Addons to find the offending culprit.

I hope that these great solutions have corrected yyour issues.

However if they haven't then could you please reply with a little more details (which browsers you've tried using, which versions and which OS you are using).

Thanks,
Aidan
