Invitatations

I am trying to invite new students to our Wiki, but when I send them they do not show up in the writer request area and the students get a message to contact me. What do I need to do?

Thanks,

Sep 2009 Wetpaint explains the private site invitation feature removal.

"Invite support for private sites is being dropped. Users will only be able to join a site while it is set as publicly accessible.

The development team was talking about completely pulling the plug on supporting private sites, but I convinced them it would be better to just drop the invite support since that was the part that was causing a lot of trouble and extra work.

The option to have a private site has already been removed from the site creation process, and dropping invitation support went into effect last week. The reasons for phasing out support for private sites are twofold:

1) We can't monetize private sites. Ad networks don't want to advertise on sites when they don't know what's there.

2) Supporting private sites requires a lot more time and effort for quality assurance testing since we have to make sure all new features work on both sets permissions schemes. Basically private sites require double the work for something that doesn't provide much in return.

I don't know of any plans to completely pull the plug on private sites, but it is very unlikely that any new features will be developed specifically for private sites."

Hope this sheds some light on the Private Site Invitation process.
