Help needed!
Jul 10 2010, 7:46 PM EDT | Post edited: Jul 10 2010, 7:46 PM EDT
I've made several attempts at making a site, and when I do, no people show up. Maybe one or two there, but they are never active. I've tagged most of the pages, but that doesn't work. I've advertised on a lot of sites, but that doesn't work either. I've even submitted my site to search engines, but they never reply back. Anything I do always turns into my doubt. I need help to find a way to gain a lot of members fast and easy, before I make another site. Anyone? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Search engines favor sites that are original and do not mimic other wikis. If your wiki is very, very similar to another, you are not likely to attract any visitors. Also, it certainly does not help to ban newcomers. Do you find this valuable?

I'm sorry, I think my friend Alex was confused and misread your comment and thought that you were referring to this site being a Harry Potter site. Harry Potter isn't very original on Wetpaint
Here are a couple for example:
http://harrypotterwiki.ew.com
http://harrypotter-roleplay.wetpaint.com

A good way to get a few members is to make friends or invite friends. Obviously you can invite your real life friends to help get things started and you can ask them to invite anyone else they know who might have an interest in Harry Potter. You may notice every administrator on popular Wetpaint sites are registered on countless sites all over Wetpaint. This comes from making friends, joining their sites, they join yours, and the cycle continues. What I'm saying is it is easier to lay some ground work than try to get everyone to join for no reason. Don't take it as I need to make friends on other sites to get more members for my site, you will be are setting your self up for failure. Be nice and helpful towards other members on other sites and you will be making friends in no time.

Another portion as Baby_Apple said is your content. Obviously anyone can have the plain old simple content that every should have, you need this content, but it can't be your only content. You need something that will set you apart from every other Harry Potter site, something fun and interactive or maybe even interesting. This content will be one of the reasons members will want to come to your site. For example, on past sites I have worked on we created activities of sorts that related to that specific site, they were fun for members to do when they joined and made the process of getting more members easier. Basically if they like it they will probably tell their friends to check it out too.

sometimes there are sites that you can advertise on, and members look at those sites you can advertise on. Like this site I made, there are alot of members and there is an advertising page. But as I said some sites can be used for advertising, you just have to ask friends... Do you find this valuable?
