1. RE: Private Sites aren't Private

"If I have to make a site public to invite people, that defeats the intent to be a private site. Why can't I simply add the people to the site from inside?"Completely agree with 'anonymous'.. No idea why this decision was made.. but bad decisions can be reverted can't they??? Do you find this valuable? |

"Completely agree with 'anonymous'.. No idea why this decision was made.. but bad decisions can be reverted can't they???"The decision to drop invites to privates wikis was made in 2010. Wetpaint had just gone through a downsizing of its employees. Implementing features for a private wiki took almost twice the time as it did with public wikis and there was not enough resources to do so. The structure to handle the invite process, had re-occurring issues. Wetpaint simply did not have the manpower to tackle those issues. Plus being a "Free" wiki farm, Wetpaint recieved revenues from Ad services to support the free offering. Many of the Advertisers did not want their ads where they could not be viewed and/or evaluated. Private wikis fell into this category. At the point of not losing advertisers, Wetpaint decided to drop Private wikis altogether. A lone voice at Wetpaint convinced them to keep the private site feature and only stop the support of the invitation to private wikis, which is where most of the issues were occurring. Reverting back would mean there would be no "private wikis" at all. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
