Is it illegal for a person under 13 to be on the site?

I found out about wetpaint from my sister who 's friend had made a site, and so I joined before ANY of us new of the rule. I have started a site, and am admin on another, so I was wondering if I shouldn't be in those positions, or if I should come back in a couple of years. Thanks! Do you find this valuable?

If you are under 13, you are not allowed on Wetpaint due to COPPA Law. You and your friends need to come back when you all are 13 or older. Do you find this valuable?

well my sister and her friends are over 13. Does that mean it is also illegal to be on youtube? (They might make you have to be so old, but I don't tell people my birthdate so I wouldn't know)and what exactly does the law say? Is it literally illegal (like with fines) to be on? Do you find this valuable?

As far as YouTube goes, I am not sure. I am sure it is for all sites. If your mom or dad sign you up, you are fine, but, here on Wetpaint, we Moderators and Wetpaint can not verify that. For details of the law, you should see the info in the rules above. Do you find this valuable?

My dad does know I'm on wetpaint, but he didn't sign me up. Is that ok? He is fine with it, so does that solve the problem? Do you find this valuable?

Oh, and I have seen TONS of 10 year olds on youtube, so if it is there, lots of people are law breakers or there parents oked it. Do you find this valuable?

No. Since we can not be sure if this is true or not, we ban anyone who we find is under 13...no exceptions. If Wetpaint find the site you made, they may shut it down. Wether he okay'd it or not, you will still end up banned due to COPPA. Do you find this valuable?

ok. I understand. Why am I not banned yet though? And can you just delete the account? Oh, and what is the way to prove he ok'd it? Do you find this valuable?

You can not delete an account. You will have to start using wetpaint when you are 13. Sadly due to the COPPA internet law you can not be on wetpaint. If a mod is here lock this thread. So maybe your account will be locked. Do you find this valuable?

first, how does that work? How would they know when I was 13? I didn't type in a real birthdate because I didn't want my age on here. I didn't know the law was involved in asking. I guess I could come on a backup account (yeah, i have some in case) and I could ask to be "unlocked". But otherwise, I have a couple more years (lucky sister and friends) ow, and how does locking an account work? Is it like I can't go on wetpaint or what? Do you find this valuable?

If Wetpaint locks your account, you will never be able to access it again. This is not reversible. Do you find this valuable?

I understand there is no way to prove it. I may only be in 5th grade, but I know how things go. But I thought you only had the power to ban me from wpc. Do you find this valuable?

We do only have power on WPC, unless we are Moderators on other sites. Only us Community Moderators have no power. Jeremy and other Wetpaint staff do though. We do not normally global ban a user for being under 13, unless they are caussing trouble. You have not.
I hope you have understood all of this, for we have explained it clearly. You should, so, this ends it. I will now be banning you for being under 13. You may come back to WPC when you are 13 or older. Do you find this valuable?

This is kind of off topic, but since when is it 13 years old? I was pretty sure when i joined Wetpaint it was only 12. Do you find this valuable?

Only if there is some sort of video chat and anyway it is still not ok even if ur dad oked it Do you find this valuable?
