How can I stop **** appearing on my site instead of words?
May 4 2010, 12:57 PM EDT
Wetpaint seems to automatically replace certain words with **** even if they are perfectly ordinary words. Recently this has happened with "****" and "****". While I realise "****" can refer to genitalia, it didn't in this case, and I can't see the problem with "****". While I realise Wetpaint has to obey certain social norms, surely it should depend on the context. If we have to misspell people's names and titles just to get them past Wetpaint's spell check it makes us look pretty stupid! Do you find this valuable? |

"Wetpaint seems to automatically replace certain words with **** even if they are perfectly ordinary words.Unfortunately, the computer algorithms that are used to filter some of the language are not as good at understanding context as we humans are. Can you send me a private message about what words are giving you trouble? In the meantime, one of our users has posted a workaround that you may find useful. "Unfortunately, the computer algorithms that are used to filter some of the language are not as good at understanding context as we humans are. Can you send me a private message about what words are giving you trouble?Hi, we had a fellow called Raphael De **** a while ago and I had to spell his name Decock, and recently we have a play called At The Black Pig's ****, both perfectly legitimate words you can see. I'm curious as to why "****" is on the banned word list, it either refers to a large wall or a lesbian woman, neither of which is offensive as far as I can see... Thanks for any help you can offer. I think that last word you mentioned is on the list because people often use it offensively.
