Licenses in multiple sites
Apr 19 2010, 11:47 AM EDT
Hello,I have some questions: Say that I draw a picture and I do not apply any copyright. Then, I upload it on my wetpaint wiki. 1) Will this picture automatically have the Creative Commons' Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 license? Then I upload this picture to another site that does not give any license 2)Will my picture have still the CC license? If not, then shall I apply the same license to any site that I upload it? Or shall I apply license to the picture itself so it will be protected in every site? But if I do that, then which license is valid, the wetpaint or my license? Thanks in advance Do you find this valuable? |

It is my understanding that:Your original work that is placed on your Wetpaint Wiki carries both Creative Commons and Share-alike license to protect the content of your WIKI. Wetpaint will abide by the licenses for all of Wetpaint Wikis. This does not extend to original work place on sites outside Wetpaint. To protect your original work with CC or Share-Alike licenses for all sites on the net, you can apply those licenses to your work at: http://creativecommons.org/choose/results-one?license_code=by-nc-sa&jurisdiction=-&version=2.5&lang=en Further protection for artwork or photos, a simple unobtrusive watermark can be place within the artwork itself. For details on how to do this, please follow the instructions on this wiki. http://splats2.wetpaint.com/page/Create+a+Watermark+for+Images crying dove owner of Splats2 Do you find this valuable? |

Ok I understood! So, I guess (and hope) that if I just upload my work on my wetpaint wiki then all of my work (drawings, music blabla) will automatically have Creative Commons' Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 License. So, no one will be able to get money from my work or from its derivatives. Is that right? But can someone who applies this license to his own work get money by selling his work? It sounds stupid but it is still a question... Do you find this valuable? |

"But can someone who applies this license to his own work get money by selling his work? It sounds stupid but it is still a question..."The licenses in question are permissions you give to others. You as the owner of the original work select how your work can be used by others. Others can share your work without making a profit from them. Others may distribute your original work with proper disclaiming information about the source of the original work. They may alter your original work (with permission). This does not mean, you as the originator of the work cannot profit from your efforts. Please read further on what these licenses are and how they apply at the Creative Commons website http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.5/ . Do you find this valuable? |
