Thread-eating bug?
Mar 18 2010, 9:15 AM EDT
Dunno if this is exactly the right place for this, since I don't know if it's technically classed as a 'bug'.Okay, so the site having the problem is here: http://pokemonteambp.wetpaint.com/ Ever since.. I think late last year, we've been having a strange problem. Seems most threads on the site were deleted automatically shortly after posting. It only happened to me a couple of times, but most of the registered users on the site have had every single one of their threads deleted. It's hurting the site's activity, and everyone is getting very frustrated. What's even weirder is now it's not affecting me or ApocalypseTheAbsol (an admin) at all. In fact I think it might be all admins who aren't experiencing the bug anymore, but I'm not entirely sure. Before anyone asks, YES, I have made sure that no rogue moderator is running around and deleting every thread in sight. All of the moderators on the site are friends of mine whom I trust completely. Questions that I'm supposed to answer: What were you doing right before the problem? Typing up and posting a thread. Describe what you saw when the problem happened. My thread being deleted by an unknown force. Describe any error messages you received. N/A What were you expecting to happen? My thread being posted without being deleted. If you need any more details, I'd be happy to oblige. Thanks ~ Do you find this valuable? |

It mostly deletes threads that have no other posts, or so I've noticed. It is very annoying, and I want it to stop as soon as possible. This problem has happened on some others sites I go on as well. None of the admins/mods from one are admins/mods on the other so I don't think anyone is deleting them. These are the sites: http://awarriorsliferoleplay.wetpaint.com/ http://warriorcatsheaven.wetpaint.com/whatsnew <---- this site is dying because of the bug D: -Apocalypse. Do you find this valuable? |

According to the Wetpaint database there have been 50 threads deleted in the past 3 months. the last thread deleted was on March 13. The name of that thread was "Sakutaro Speaks". It's possible but unlikely that the threads are being deleted by some bug. It is much more likely that there is a moderator that is doing it and is not being honest about it.

Are youl sure that none of the Mods or Admins are doing it? Maybe the Creator? If you are sure none of them are doing it, try demoting everyone w/ Mod/Admin status and see if it stops. If it does, then sadly, it is one of them. What you need to do then is promote them back one at a time until it starts happening again.-Alex, Community Moderator Do you find this valuable? |

I already tried demoting all the mods/admins on my site. Sadly it didn't stop. I figured that maybe it was a glitch. Do you find this valuable? |

"I already tried demoting all the mods/admins on my site. Sadly it didn't stop. I figured that maybe it was a glitch.Does it happen every time you create a new post or is it random? Are there any noticeable differences between the times when the thread disappears and when they stay? Do you find this valuable? |

It's random. Not every thread we post disappears. As for the differences, I haven't noticed any.

I know this may not be relevant, but for the part where a Mod/Admin might do this, that is why we need a restore thread option...if not, then atleast let us know who deletes them.

(My browser froze right as I tried posting this, so if I double post that's why *grumble*)The likelihood of a mod deleting threads and 'not being honest' is slim-to-none, as many of the mods on the site are inactive, and again, none of them would anyway. They have no reason to, and they have many reasons not to. I know you both are trying to help, but please do not accuse my friends of being dishonest; I take personal offense at that. As Apocalypse said, as far as we can tell, it's just at random, though again, it seems to target mainly registered users. So no one can see who deleted threads, period? Because that would be really helpful right now. I also agree with Naru about the restore thread option. Do you find this valuable? |

"I know this may not be relevant, but for the part where a Mod/Admin might do this, that is why we need a restore thread option...if not, then atleast let us know who deletes them."That's a good idea. Then if it WERE some mod/admin we would know. Not that I'm accusing anyone. It would also save important threads from being lost. Do you find this valuable? |
