What is considered to be spamming?

If you are a wetpaint member and you belong to many wetpaint sites is it spamming if you try to help the newer wikis/sites by sending messages to friends on other wetpaint sites. For example If I was trying to help the creator of The Good Wife Wiki and sent messages to friends on The Tudors Wiki.to let them know about a new wiki .is it spam,,,or is it promotions? I just want to be sure on this I do not wish to get into trouble.

I just want to be sure on this I do not wish to get into trouble."Spam is usually defined as something that it is unsolicited, repetitive, and there is no way for a recipient to opt out of receiving it. Spam is also usually commercial (to sell stuff) or malicious (sending links to malware, etc). If you are just sending messages to your friends to let them know about a site, then that would typically not be considered spam. If you are sending large amounts of messages to strangers then you start getting into gray areas because some people may not want to receive those messages. Does that help? yes it does because many MANY of us wetpainters try to help each other with promoting wikis we have made, friends have made and or joined. As we all have different interests so.. we tend to belong to different wikis and not all of us are in the same wikis. Personally, I am into advertization...lol and I am glad to know that i am not doing anything wrong by trying to help promote our wetpaint friends and their wikis along with ours and our favorites. So YES thank you very much! And NO we have not had anyone become upset by this but it is nice to make sure it is ok to do so.
