Wetpaint has ignorant censors.

Wetpaint-

you censor the comonly used swear word used to describe excrement.

But you ALSO have annoying censors on words that AREN'T swear words at all?

D_E_M_A_S_H_I_T_A.
It's a Japanese word that means roughly "They're Here!".
And when I type it on my Anime Club's Site, you censor it.
It;s not a swear word.
It's not even English.

*********.

WHY?
It's extremely annoying when my clubmates and I are trying to use the site to discuss anime, and we can't even talk about what we're watching.

What can be done?

It also censors A_I_S_H_I_T_E_R_U.
Which means " I love you".

How wrong is that?

It is something that is automatically done by a censor program...
One of our members talked about a place called T_O_S_H_I_T_A...
Because the word S_H_I_T is in there... it is automatically removed and replaced by asterisks...
It's a bit dumb... but it is how it is...

"What can be done?"
Nothing. The only way Wetpaint would be able to remove it would be to get the add-free site upgrade, but, there is no plan for this anytime in the near future.

I agree with it being not refined enough to allow perfectly gentle words through. But I do not seem to have a problem with the word filter at all.

Demashɪta Toshɪta shɪt and Aishɪteru is not a problem for me.

Yes, I think the censor has its issues.

Personally, I feel as if there are the basic, main swear words,(S_H_I_T, H_E_L_L, etc.) that are automatically and permanently censored but you can add other words to the censor.

Thanks for reporting these issues with the language filter. I'll have someone take a look at it and see if we can tweak it so that those words don't get filtered. Do you find this valuable?

Would it be possible for wetpaint to only censor curse words and not just.. words with "curse words" in them?

The japanese problem they were referring to up there is actually a big problem because "s_h_i_t_e" is the past tense for "to do" which is in like, every other word in one form or another (not exaggerating!).

Is there any update on this?

I hate to keep bugging this forum every couple months; I feel bad because I know there's probably numerous other problems for wetpaint to deal with.

************ and basically any Noun + ***** combination is still being filtered. It's difficult to request individual words to get unfiltered because して (*****) is basically used at the end of pretty much half the verbs you would use in Japanese (among other words).

I know there's a workaround some members like to use, but for someone who actively studies different languages, using incorrect notation for phonetic symbols just can't be done. I apologize for being such a schmuck about it!
