Ad problems
Feb 3 2010, 1:18 PM EST | Post edited: Feb 3 2010, 1:22 PM EST
In an effort to try to catch one of the viruses reported by visiting the member's sites listed in the Trojan Virus threads (unsuccessful at this point in time), I have come upon several other pieces of garbage along the way. Here is a list.

1. The Gossip Girl Ad. Upon entering any site (choose any out of the millions), ads will cycle through normally by visiting pages or refreshing a page,UNTIL the Gossip Girl ad is loaded. Then it is there to stay and no other ads will be loaded thereafter. This is with IE and FF. IE will return to cycling after clearing cookies and temp files. Firefox has no effect, that ad is there to stay, until a reboot of the system is performed and with hopes that the GG ad is not the first ad displayed. (I think she is stalking me)

2. The normal dimensions of the 238Top2 (wp_ads.topPromo) and the 728Top1 (Adstop) plus a 3 pixel space between the two ads creates a 968 pixel spance across the top of the screen.

Problem:
728 Leaderboard Ads with "Your Ad Here" Tab at the left of the ad is no longer a 728 ad. The dimensions are 747. That 747 ad causes the leaderboard ad to drop down below the promo ad instead of to the right of the promo ad. And there goes any hopes of having important content above the fold.

3. Footer Ad creating a popup. This is a Cursormania Ad.

4.Various ads give 3D parsing error in Reader.

5. And what the heck is this ad, advertising?

Hopefully the post will fall on "interested" ears.

This thread has nothing to do with the Virus Alerts. Simply ads that are not correct and no one wants to address

"Wetpaint's QA team was notified. "
Thank you for the reply BA. A lot of my frigging time has been spent to try to assist WP in figuring out the malicious ads problem. Since the general user of Wetpaint is unfamiliar with Firebug or how to stop a page from loading to try and capture the address of ads, I thought my experience could be of help. Then these other problematic areas started to noted. And with nothing but good intentions, had asked for assistance in private messaging to others, to help validate some of the findings, only to be left without assistance. No problem...i will not put myself in this position again. WP has the expertise to find its own stupid problems or ignore them if they so decide. I feel sorry for the community.

In the meantime i suggest to all of those that read this, download ad-ons Ad-blocker Plus for Firefox or Simple Ad-block for Internet Explorer. Then there will be no problems with ads at all.

I passed this information along to our guy that manages the ad campaigns and our QA dept. We're looking into #1, #2 is a known issue that has been logged, and #3, #4, and #5 we can look into, but we need Firebug code rather than an image to precisely identify the ad and who is serving it.

I am sorry, I spent close to 7 hours yesterday hitting the refresh key to try and cycle ads and another 4 hours today doing so. Someone else with the knowledge of firebug can step up to the plate. I am pissed. My ad-blockers are on and not coming off. I am a pretty logical troubleshooter. But when my intelligence is questioned as with a couple of replies to problems noted recently, that is when I stop. I do not get paid to deal with frustrations.

So hopefully someone else can gather the information for you.

I think you might have found the culprit! Can you provide any extra information regarding those errors that you have and pass it on to Jeremy please.
