What a disappointing adds

Wow... this service might be okey, but their marketing department must really be trying to scare me away with all these videos.

Take the first video: "Why use webpaint?"
The gist: Sarah is a scooter lover, but she has no scooter lover friends. The solution: she creates a scooter website and invites all her scooter lover friends, who in turn invite their scooter lover friends, creating a huge community.

Sorry? Let's get this straight, she has no scooter lover friends, makes a website and then she suddenly has those friends as she can now invite them?

And the wiki vs. Wetpaint videos...
Much of what they say is simply untrue, exaggerated (by a factor 20) and even where they may have a point, they are not having a fair comparison. You can't compare apples and pears, nor can you compare a piece of software (let's assume they mean MediaWiki, if they don't they are even comparing a service with a type of program, which makes even less sense) with a service. If there was someone tro provide a service based on MediaWiki, then you would have something to compare to... And probably then installing won't be more than a few clicks either. On top of that, you can host your own MediaWiki if you want to spend half an hour installing (36 hours? That guy must have been typing with his tongue or something) which you cannot do with wetpaint.

Really, this "marketing" makes me want to puke and never look at this website again. However, I will be fair and evaluate the usefulness of wetpaint for the thing I meant it for. But you won't hear me complaining over the fact that wetpaint is not even trying to be what I am looking for...

Sarah does have scooter lover friends, just not enough to create a community. If her scooter lover friends contact their scooter lover friends, and so on, she will soon have a large scooter lover community. The point of a Wiki is to reach a global audience. Wetpaint allows you to do that.

I have used MediaWiki myself, and I agree that it is a very nice program. But MediaWiki is designed for more advanced users who want to host their own Wikis. Wetpaint has an easier editing interface, and they host your Wiki so you don't need to worry about buying a static IP address, a dedicated server, etc.

It seems to me that you don't know very much about Wetpaint. My guess is that you've been using MediaWiki awhile and came here to complain about our service simply because it differs from the one you use.

Uh, yes - he came here to learn about wet paint. Why else view the intro videos?

People don't go to other sites just to complain. They go hoping it matches their needs.

To the credit of the original poster - a video introduction?

Just lay out the specs, don't just set out a video I will never watch. I can read so much faster.
