I would assume that the Copyright would likely belong to Bandai, Cartoon Network, or the company who took the photo. Unless they are the original owners of the copyrighted images, I do not believe that they can claim rights to them. As a result you likely could send this notice to the actual copyright holders letting them know someone else is trying to take full credit for their work. I would wait for another user to post in addition to mine, since mine is more of an opinion. Do you find this valuable?

Thanx for you reply. :)
I sent Wetpaint an E-mail with the info, I am in the same opinion as you, CN and Bandai own the copywrite.
I deleted my 1st post because I read the info at the bottom of the page.and I was not sure if I should have posted in the forum.

The problem is remembering from your original post, is that the image was taken from a Distributor of Bandai products. The distributor may have permission to watermark images they have taken of or supplied by the Brandai. So, bottom line is no matter what the watermark says and no matter who the copyright holder is, the individual said you do not have permission to use the image. Case closed.

Whether images from Bandai or Cartoon network are found all over the network does not make them free to copy. That is like saying crime is ok because you can find crime all over the globe.

Ok, Just so I understand this.
If I took a picture of a thing (anything), and put my watermark on it, and put it on the web, does that mean I have exclusive rights to that picture ? I know it sounds like a smarta88 question, but it's not.

If you took a picture of a tree, the photo rights are yours. If you took a photo of a person, before you publish that photo, you have to get the person's permission to do so. If you took a picture of a product, you may need to get permission of the company that produced that product in order to publish it. Exceptions are when the images are released into the public domain or carry a creative commons license or fall under the share-alike rules.

The pictures you have taken are yours but you may not be able to publish them without permission in some cases.

A watermark is an image on an image, that can be used to deter others from claiming the image as their own.

And not to sound rude, but, with regards to your email to WP. My opinion is they are not going to take a lawyer stance on this issue. They will probably reply with asking you to remove the images to prevent further complications. My opinions are based upon working for a newspaper for 10 years and dealing with proprietary issues on a daily basis. Fonts. Photos, Images, Clipart...etc all had to be certified for use before they went into the newspaper. Do you find this valuable?

It doesn't sound rude, I asked a question, you gave me an answer, Thanx! :)
I asked because I read somewhere that as long as you do not profit from or use the images to sell anything, The " No harm, No foul" rule applies.
As with the newspaper,it made a profit from using other peoples Photos, images, clipart, etc.
