ok i read about the search engines. and if i understood right the more unique content you have the more likely it will be found upon searching... im not sure if i got that right so please correct me if i am wrong. But if this is right were is this "content" supposed to be? does it mean on the site in general? like any were on the site? sorry if that was a rather confusing question. I just would like to know so my site will be easier to find for others.

Search engines will find content within both pages and thread posts, but I believe page content is rated higher. Visit this page to learn more about how keywords are weighted for search engines: http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/How+Keywords+Help+Drive+Traffic Do you find this valuable? |

Your question is a little difficult to answer because it depends on the search engine used. Most search engines will scan a website and extract words that are on the pages. It uses an algorithm (fancy sorting thing) and builds a reference (index) of search words for your site (along with other sites containing the same words). So when a search is performed, if a match is found to the words found in the index, your site will appear on the search results list. Positioning on the search result list depends upon the popularity (rank) of your site.OK. What words on your wiki are going to be found? CONTENT ON YOUR SITE 1. Title. Site titles will be looked at. 2. Page Titles- are important 3. Most important are TAGS. Make the tags for your pages very pertainent to your pages and your site. e.g. Your site is about Jaguar XKE model sports car. Tags that can be used are auto, automobile, foreign car, British, XKE, Jaguar, Jaguar XKE, Sports car, convertible. You can see the more tags to describe the page the better. 4. Some search engines use to look at Font Size of text. They keyed on Large Fonts figuring the webmaster thought that was important information (not sure if this still holds true ) but it certainly helps to bring notice to the page. Look at information on these pages for more details http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/How+to+Promote+a+Site http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Advanced+SEO http://splats2.wetpaint.com/page/How+Search+Engines+Work http://splats2.wetpaint.com/page/Search+Engine+Optimization+SEO Do you find this valuable? |
