My site has lost it's creator!
Nov 7 2009, 12:16 PM EST | Post edited: Nov 7 2009, 12:16 PM EST
Hi. I wanted to delete my site (http://markenvision.wetpaint.com/) and start under a different username, but ended up just deleting myself from my site (duh). I know (now) that I can't delete the site but how do I change the title?

Thanks

You can't change the title now that you are not the creator. Is there any administrators on your site? If there is, they can promote you to administrator, which is just like the creator.

If there isn't e-mail Wetpaint at info@wetpaint.com, and they can promote you to administrator.

After you are promoted, go to settings, and select the tab "Name and Logo" you can type the new name there.

Good Luck!

Let's just reiterate this.
If you create a site and then choose to cancel your membership to the site YOU WILL LOSE SITE CREATOR STATUS. If you try to rejoin the site you will be a lowly registered user. If you don't want to lose your site creator status on the site, then do not cancel your membership to the site.

Of course (as you will have read, I was trying to delete my username, which I now realise is not an option).
Thanks for restoring my admin status btw.

Somehow users arent seeing the message that says that.

It is in black and white, and it is clearly there. If users are not reading the messages, then, it is their fault. Not to sound rude or anything, but this is the truth. The message is there, Wetpaint made sure of that, and if the users are not seeing it or reading the whole cancel membership page, it is their fault. Do you find this valuable?

I think the confusion lies in the distinction between being signed up to Wetpaint and being signed up to a particular site. I created a site and then realised that my username was misleading and decided to start again with a more appropriate one.

When in my profile I clicked on 'cancel membership' - of course seasoned members of WP would know that the 'site' referred to is the one that you are a 'member' of. But if you are new, it could be thought that this meant cancel membership of Wetpaint (at least a simple soul like myself thought that).
the message I got was
_______
Please read these important notes before canceling your membership.

If you cancel your membership, you will no longer:

* Receive any email notifications from this site
* Have access to any private features associated with your profile
* Receive credit for past contributions to the site
* Have active subscriptions on this site

Once you have canceled your membership, your current status as Administrator will not automatically be reinstated should you choose to rejoin the site in the future.

If this site is set to private status, you will be locked out of the site when you cancel your membership.
_______________

If it had made some mention of creator status (e.g. If you create a site and then choose to cancel your membership to the site YOU WILL LOSE SITE CREATOR STATUS.) then I might have worked out before clicking the button that I wasn't cancelling life on Wetpaint but merely on the site I had just created...

I have no problem with the way the site works, (I think WP is terrific) but I thought I would post this so you could see why some people might make a similar error.

(As an afterthought, in a perfect world I guess it should be made impossible for a site to lose it's last member with administrator status.)

It should say as creator, you will not get it back again. I just canceled my creator status on a site I made yesterday, and it told me as Creator, I would not re-gain it. Plain as day.

Thanks for the suggestion. But, Wetpaint does give you a warning before canceling your membership on wikis. Do you find this valuable?

When someone cancels their membership, the message will denote the permission level they are at when canceling.

"Once you have canceled your membership, your current status as ADMINISTRATOR will not automatically be reinstated should you choose to rejoin the site in the future."

"Once you have canceled your membership, your current status as REGULAR USER will not automatically be reinstated should you choose to rejoin the site in the future."

Each message will appear differently depending on the member's status on that wiki.

Just to clarify things.

Somehow they are missing it. As crying dove said we should put it in red.
