"This is actually a regular feature of most other wikis - the ability to remove members and references to them; it is not so 'unusual', nor should it be a 'custom-design' idea. Just a basic feature of a wiki-page, just as deleting-content (such as photo and video albums posted by writers themselves) should also be part of 'editing' a wiki. Group projects is a common educational use of wiki-pages.

Thanks anyways, but I will need to use a different wiki-page provider who can do this.

T.O."
If you are the poster who started this, then just do this: ( Even if you're not and you want the same thing. )

Go through and delete all the threads and pages from that time. Just having old activity on your site isn't going to really do anything. If they are deleted, then they can not do anything. I do not see why you need old activity taken off the ' Updates ' section of your wiki.

Because part of that 'old activity' includes links to previous user's profiles (eventhough they have been 'banned' and 'removed' - they can still be access through this 'back door'), which then also includes the link to their 'contributions' - i.e. all of their past written work for the previous projects. A slight problem for NEW students starting to work on the projects in the same wiki page, seeing past students' complete works. (not to mention their names and photos, which is a privacy issue as well.) Do you find this valuable?

But if you delete the thread you wouldn't be able to view it. Do you find this valuable?

It's not only 'threads' that can be viewed... as I mentioned above, links to their PROFILES still work, and from their profiles, you can click on 'contributions', which shows ALL of their past work (written pages, etc), as well as the profile itself (containing student names, photos, etc.). It is simply not acceptable, and cannot be re-used. Do you find this valuable?

So...basically you don't want them to cheat? It isn't that big of a deal. If it was, all of the other people using wikis would be complaining.

Well, the only thing I can think of is for you to make a new site and have the second group use that site instead of the other one.

Just keep making formatting changes to your profile or changing your profile image, the will easily be gone.
And if you deleted the pages where the past work was, they cannont see it unless they are to restore it as moderators.

And i really can't think of many other free-wiki features that allow you to do this...or even for people to join.

JJ, he is meaning, even if the page is deleted, they can look at the History. That is why I posted what I did above. That is, more than likely, the only fix. I think.

Some of the recent posts seem to suggest you haven't read all of the previous postings.. and 'cheating is not a big deal' reflects lack of understanding of what happens in education.

Yes, plenty of other wikis provide basic deleting functions - WikiSpaces, PB Wikis, etc. For free.

They can also go into the page's history, and delete all of the page versions.

This talks about deleting page versions, and not the HISTORY tracking itself.

Well, you're worried about EVERYTHING about not able to delete old activity, we are giving it to you. Also, I suggested you make a new wiki to use for the next group.

Please read the previous posts, including suggestions about making new wikis, which is not an option, since to get educational wikis (ads-free), Wetpaint now requires that we PAY $20 per month per wiki, which I'm not going to do. (and yes, I do need an ads-free wiki for my student projects.)

Yes, as an instructor, I have to worry about academic integrity standards of my student group projects, including things like CHEATING, and PERSONAL INFORMATION PRIVACY. I'm sorry that you don't seem to understand this...

In any case, I'm signing off this discussion now, as clearly there is no solution to this problem; I'm creating wikis with another provider as we speak.

Good bye.

in the profile updates just post nonsense on your profile till you see no more old member updates. I tested this on an old site of mine and it worked great. If I don't make sense, send me a message. Do you find this valuable?
