60px (now) vs 23px (before) browser height size?

I've been collecting screen shots of the evolution fo the Wetpaint browser bar over the last few years:

And in the last update, the browser bar was increased to a 60 pixel height, thus becoming very space consuming and gaudy.
Do you find this valuable?

In usability testing we found that people had trouble finding the sign in/sign up links so we made them bigger. Do you find this valuable?

Yes, but why do you have to make the entire bar that size, why not make the sign in button bigger, but not dependent on the daily activity browser bar?

Also, can you explain to me how I will be able to check site page count, as I usually do this weekly?
