You can make your site private. To make your site private, go to "settings", "permissions", "I want to change these settings" and then click "Members only: Only people who have previously joined your site can view it" and press save. Now, only people won't be able to join, or see, your site unless they have previously joined.

If you wish for new members to join the site, you will need to make the site public again. After these members join, your site can be made private again. Do you find this valuable?

Any unwanted members can be banned under the change permissions option on their profile if they join while it's open. Do you find this valuable?

"Hello, I helped a friend sign up on wiki and put the wrong user name down, can it be changed?"
Unfortunately, no. Currently, wetpaint does not allow users to change their usernames. He will have to make a new account.
You can, however, suggest it here: http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Make+a+Suggestion
